Historical Traveler Reviews of Madrid Opera Paris
Highly overrated
from A TripAdvisor Member
We chose this Hotel due to the nice photographs featured on their website- the description promised period features and a luxurious wooden double bed. I went for my 22nd birthday with my boyfriend and was so dissapointed with the room I was in tears. It was a dump, there were stains on the carpet, the curtains were plastic, the bed was small and uncomfortable and there was abosultly nothing you could call a period feature in the room. Apart from that it was very noisy at night and very bright so the room was flooded with street lights the whole time. The breakfast was passable for what it was, a few stale croissants and old ham. The best thing about the place was its nice bathroom with a shower big enough for two. I am not exaggerating with this opinion and I would recommened everyone to avoid this hotel at all costs- it is not worth your hard earned cash!!
In need of re-furbishment

Dissappointingly in need of re-furbishment. Excessive traffic noise from early morning and the breakfast was only adequate.
It hardly merits it's 3 star superior rating.
Ideally situated

We stayed for 3 nights (8-11 May 2004) in the Madrid Opera Hotel and found it ideal for our first visit to Paris. It was ideally situated within easy reach of the Metro although it is only a 15-20 min walk to the Seine. We had a double room and found it clean and tidy, the continental breakfast was plenty for us and is served from 7.30 to 10 but dont leave it til 9.45 as we did on our last morning as there was no crockery, cutlery and little choice of food left - serves us right for getting up late! We would recommend it as all round good value accommodation
Excellent value for money
from TWOWILLS
Stayed in the Madrid Opera for 2 nights, 23 & 24 April 2004. One twin and 1 single (Single room was in fact a double) on the second floor facing front. Rooms were very clean, warm and comfortable with everything we required including hair dryer, wall safe, plenty of towels, etc.
Hotel is in a busy central location with plenty of cafes, restaurants, bistros, bars, shops. Close to Metro and great for easy access to all the major sights. We felt breakfast was adequate and compared well with other continental breakfasts. We had no complaints with the hotel. Staff were very helpfull and we would have no hesitation in picking this hotel again. Would recomend.
Average hotel with great location

This hotel have a great location, close to some of the big shopping streets and it have nearest Metro station two minutes away. The hotel is in a lively street with a lot of cafe's and small shops. Supermarked and bakery next door. One hour walk from Champs Elyees. The room we had in fourth floor was small. Not much space to open your suitecase :) Had a TV and Minibar. It had a small bathroom with short bath thub. Problem with airconditioning in our room. You get what you pay for! The location is great. The standard is ok. Open 24/7. We might even choose it the next time.
Very good location!

Good location, 10 min walk to Paris Opera Roissy Bus (non-stop to Airport, 8.20 EUR). Nice neigbourhood. Rooms were nice but do look under the bed if it has been cleaned! Good breakfast and nice staff.
Recommended for the city tourist not spending too much time in the hotel room.

Great location. We stayed in the madrid opera for three nights from the 29th of January. We had two triple rooms. the rooms were very clean and were not too small. There is no bar. The breakfast was very basic , but overall it is very good value for money, and if i were going back to Paris i would return to the madrid opera.
Just perfect

The hotel was quite deceptive from the outside, once inside pleasantly surprised. The hotel is in a fab location with plently going on and really feel the atmosphere of the city, and certainly don't have to walk far for a metro. We where on the 6th floor which was small but perfect our room was in the roof with lovely wooden beams on the ceiling, the view of the other hotels was perfect very romantic and quaint. Well air conditioned and very, very warm. Bathroom was spacious with a bath and shower, and towel heater. Staff were pleasant and friendly even at 2am.. 24hr reception. Breakfast was basic but adequate, all you needed to prepare yourself for a day in such a beautiful city. Would recommend it and can't wait to go bacK.
Great location shame about the rooms
from Ridds1313
Firstly, this small hotel is in a good location. You can reach any part of Paris with ease and you have bars, restaurants and shopping on the doorstep.I took my wife and teen daughter and stayed in Jan 04.We booked a triple (No. 25) after reading on websites that the hotel had been refurbished in the last 2 years. It didn't appear to have been refurbished. Our room faced the street and was quite noisy in view of the bars nearby. The room was very cold and even though the air conditioning was turned up the bedroom stayed cold. There were extra blankets available. The furnishings are very tired throught the hotel. The bathroom only had a shower, with no hooks to hang clothes and no soap dishes etc in the shower. The shower didn't drain for minutes so you have be careful of overflows. The bathroom was clean but had no curtain and did overlook a main street.Breakfast was not a great choice but was sufficient even for vegetarians like us.Overall - I normally pay more and go higher stars, I wish I had but it was just about value for money.
