... history from Roman times when it was exploited for its gol yields. It is a must do when we return. We did go to Astorga by local bus on the Monday as most buildings are closed that day in Leon. The girl at the i said that would be a good day to go out into the country, for example to Astorga, but she didn't mention, most things are closed on Monday in Astorga too, including the i office! There were quite a lot of people in Astorga, probably stopping ...

... lacing up those boots, for craving tortilla patata and Milka Oreo chocolate, for holding my hand, for dancing like a goose, for laughing at my stupid jokes and for being my best friend. I know I could have walked the Camino by myself but if I had, who on earth would I have shared this amazing experience with. I'm glad it was you.

Worth the extra kms & the mountain climb

... take, but it runs over, around and under the freeway all the way. Ummmmm, like bitumen, bitumen and more bitumen. The alternative is the Camino Duro which is a climb 1500M up a mountain for 8km that starts at about a 25 degree incline for a km, then becomes more gentle but is still a 2 hour climb. Hamish and I had a late, for a Pilgrim, night sitting slurpping a few glasses of Vino Tinto. Still got turned before midnight before I turned into a Pumpkin or something.
Nothing open before 8.00am so I was gagging for my first Coffee. The local bar keep had slept in alsomjust to make matters worse. However he managed to recover the situation by serving a fine Coffee and freshly cooked Potato Tortilla. We had some time on our hands ...

... hotel. Thank heavens for sanity finally prevailing is all I can say, but reading some of its history, makes me wonder just how soundly I will sleep tonight?! The Cathedral in the centre of the old town is really quite an amazing architectual feat and I was really pleased that I got the audio tour to really understand its history. It took 50 years to build which for a Gothic cathedral was very fast (others did take up to 200 years to complete) this was made ...
