... scurrying into the safety of shop doorways. The laneways wind and zig zag and are seldom straight. We are told the theory behind this was to confuse and deter the Pirates. There are shops selling everything - clothes and jewellery being the predominant items, but plenty of cafes. All the buildings are white and i can't help wondering what the colour charts look like in the local paint and hardware stores. Window trims seem to be the only choice available ...

Said our farewells to everyone this morning and then we set out for the old Olympic stadium. On the way there we witnessed the changing of soldiers at their post which was kinda cool. We never did figure out what building they were guarding but I'll have to look that up. I forgot my student card for the Olympic stadium, and didn't wanna ...

... space for burials now. That was pretty much the end of the tour and we popped back to Akihabara for another look and then back to the hotel by about 6pm with tired legs. Long day but got to see a lot which was great. After showers we headed out to find local restaurant which we did then got caught in huge downpour so back to hotel to dry out. 24 June Today we headed down to Hiroshima which involved getting from our hotel in a short train ride to Tokyo station ...

... 000 people lived there at one time) and, like all these ancient places, was built on a hill - so a good workout!! As well as the usual agora, temples, wells, theatres etc, it has a Terrace of the Lions which was dedicated to Apollo by the people of Naxos shortly before 600 BC. The're not sure how many there were originally, 9-19 they estimate, but only 7 remain. The ones outdoors are copies. As at the Acropolis, they've moved ...
