Vilcabamba

Night and day difference between Peru and Ecuador as far as the friendliness of the people. The Ecuadorians were very out going and friendly, willing to help with whatever. Vilcabamba was a beautiful mountain town that reminds me of Western Slope Colorado. The sacred mountain Mandango is quite a sight. The valley is beautiful and has great sun sets. It is the perfect place to relax and maybe eat some San Pedro. It is a very high energy place. There is loads of energy work available in town an...

... at the man working on the cage and saw it. A spider monkey! It had a little leash on it, as the enclosure wasn't completed yet.

I read up on them and read that they are so social they can actually die of lonliness. Well. We have been quite solitius to the little thing. We talk to it all the time and walk around and wave our arms. It bares it’s teeth and makes little noises (probably thinking it would love to pull our hair…). That’s the biggest news ...

For some reason, they thought it would add credence to the news feature to get Oliver – looking ...

The Valley of Eternal Youth

... The bus journey however was not so painless! We were forever stopping in towns or the middle of nowhere to drop and pick people up and didnt end up arriving into Loja until 8.30pm, 3.5 hours late. It was then a mad fight to find our bags with all the other angry passengers, and to find a bus going to Vilcabamba. We finally arrived at our destination at 10pm (24 hours after starting), absolutely exhausted! We had rung to ...

... hours. The journey was once again a journey high upon the ridge of the mountains dropping once to the valley floor to pass through an interesting looking town.

When we arrived at Loja we decided to check out a few hotels nearby, none were particularly cheap or accommodating. We had lunch, whilst I checked on flights in the nearby internet cabin. We were looking for quick cheap ways for getting to Machu Picchu by 28th October, my birthday, it was going to be a ...

Vilcabamba - relaxing anyone!

Wednesday 14th October
Arrived in Loja pretty knackered and with no buses to Vilcabamba for about 2 hours. Lucky for me the one restaurant open at that hour had a tv and Man Utd were on, a reply of a Champions League game! Good luck for Dario.
I ended up in Vilcabamba at about 7am. Everyone hd recommended this one hostel, and i really should have booked, but due to laziness I hadnt. The dorms were booked out. Lucky again there was a girl there ...

Hello Dear Ones!

Thought I'd share a couple of Ecuadorian adventures!

One night this week I was going to bed and noticed there was music wafting up from downstairs. Hmmm. Turns out there were 8 gentleman and one guitarist drinking and singing and singing and singing. Less talk, More music. At 11:30 I went out and asked them to be quiet. Soooo, for the next hour they sang quietly!!! No kidding. At 1:00 I shooed them away, but not before I stuck the camera ...

Turning on, tuning in, and dropping out

What`s the difference between a people smuggling operation and heading from Peru to Ecuador along a little used border crossing? Not a lot, as it turned out.

Deciding to spend time in Chachapoyas had been fun, and well worth the effort but posed a slight problem when it came to the border crossing. There are only three land crossings with Ecuador. The first border crossing near the coast was the most popular - indeed, you could even catch a bus that picked you up from your hotel ...

The simple things in life

This morning I was up on the roof hanging up the laundry. The clouds were making and unmaking their patterns in the sky. The sun was patchy. I heard something in the building. Then the sound repeated again. I peeked down the stairwell. Turning it's sweet little head to look at me was about an 8 inch tall grey colored owl! It was attempting unsuccessfully to fly out through the glass.
Our renter came up and we discussed the owl. I went and got my ...

Short But Sweet, Pictures Soon!!

So we have finally made it into Ecuador although it seems like we have barely been in Peru. We have traded in the coast for something a little more like home minus the snow. First a bit about our boarder crossing. First you get off of you collectivo bus, imagine a cab that only went to where you wanted once every seat was full, and tried to fill that seat everytime someone got out. Crossed into the Immigration ...
