... was indeed closed to the public, so all we got was a close-up view of its front exterior, the tile floors, and hallway just inside the building. We were both stunned by the extraordinary tile work and gold mosaics on the ceilings. ... clean) but it's a fascinating city. We then found a local restaurant, and ordered pizza for dinner. By the time pizza arrived Isabelle and Zac were almost asleep. They were just completely exhausted.
We ate the pizza as fast as we could and carried the kids out of the restaurant. Great for fat burning. Needless to say it was an early night for everyone.
... Not bright eyed and bushy tailed, but up! A strategy to beat the crowds in order to get photos with out crowds of peple photo bombing our pictures. It turned out to be an excellent plan as later in the day there were thousands of people. We meandered through the backstreet canals, watching the gondolas get ready, deliveries made on boats and vendors setting up their stalls. We were soon back at the Rialto bridge...this ...
... hours. it was about 3 pm at this time and I wanted to spend more time with her. But that's just how the way things go.
She was happy to go back home but sad because she didn't have much time left to spend with me in Venice. We had eachothers numbers so we could catch up when we get back to australia.

... middle of the day. We walked up near the Arsenal (but didn't quite get there) for an hour, looking for somewhere to eat. We finally found a little cafe, full of locals, serving a choice of 2 dishes - lasagna or mixed tempura fired fish. The local colour would have been wonderful if the staff hadn't been run off their feet to serve everyone...and if the lasagna hadn't been still frozen in the middle. Oh well - feel that we were the only Aussies there this week!! By the time we got back ...
