We returned to the hotel, rested up...and went to a great restaurant called Rosa Rossa (Red Rose) We ate outdoors, of course, in perfect weather...and each had caprese and indivdual pizzas.

... seems a bit desolate now, the wide empty space unforgiving in the heat. A few pensioners sat in the shade around three trees, but no one else in sight. From here I could have headed back directly to the Accademia bridge, but I wanted to head down to the back of Dorsoduro, towards the church of Saint Sebastian and out onto the waterfront that looks out onto the Giudecca. The Rialto bridge was heavy with tourists.Tired from a day of walking, we made our way back to the Piazzale Roma following signs but this time the signs took us on very long route. We felt as if we were going in circles and zigzagging back and forth through the city. Several times we came to dead ends and had to retrace our steps. We eventually came to the Grand Canal ...
Then - Originally I didn't think Venice played a major roll in ww2, but I was wrong. I was naive to think they were immune to the largest war in history, but I didn't know what happened here. The Germans used the harbors of Venice for their naval ships. Check out the "now" to learn more.

... an audience to the many gondolas that floated past. People watching is such a funny thing and during our lunch we were entertained by the weird and wonderful tourist assortments. I'd have to say our two favourite were the 'couple-in-love with the awkward third wheel' scenario and the 'older couple along with their three grumpy teenage boys', one of which didn't even bother taking his headphones out. You can just see the poor mother senses a disconnect with her sons ...
