... we did not splurge on the touristy gondola ride. Did I mention that there were tourists crawling everywhere. We took a ferry to Murano island to see where the glass is made and found a demonstration of glass blowing which was interesting. The sheer volume of tourists slowed us down but we managed to see some of the key sights including the Rialto Bridge, the Doge's Palance which included some cool dungeons and the so called bridge of sighs and the city's ...
... year old city. My feelings of grandeur were still there but the 21st century tackiness was starting to creep in. Salesman jammed items in your face uninvited to purchase, the hustle and bustle of the tourists was overpowering, the lovely romantic gondalo rides where €100 for 45 minutes and the city looked like it really needed a good hosing down with a gurney. The walkway has two small barred windows which the prisoners can look out and take a last ...
... right train that stopped at our hotel and headed to our rooms. After distributing luggage to the proper rooms, I decided to grab a shower and discovered a bathroom so big that eight of our ship bathrooms could fit inside it! It was almost as big as our sleep area. We had gotten so used to cramped quarters that the most exciting thing about our hotel was how huge the bathroom was. An added bonus was this shower didn't move!
Venice was beautiful and romantic. What a perfect way ...
