Trendy Hamburg.....Edgy and sophisticated

... is a trendy part of the city taking in high end shopping and more Christmas markets. It also ecaspulates the old town, with the Kirchturm steeple the major land mark of the area. This is the remains of St Nikolai Church. It was orininally the world tallest building from 1874 to 1876. Only the Steeple remains as the rest of the church was destroyed by bombs in 1940s.

... a giant building that was labelled in big letters on the outside—right across the street from where we’d first exited the Hauptbahnhof.

Once we’d checked in, we got some lunch from the vendors outside our hostel and then went for a walk down Steinstrasse, the main shopping street nearby. We stopped at Starbucks for a Christmas drink, and then headed to the Rathaus, or city hall. On the way to the Rathus, just a 10 minute ...

... got changed, Jess borrowed Lottes socks and shoes, and headed out to dinner. We caught the U bann to the 'trendy' area of Hamburg and ended up in another tapas place. More great food and also another beggar who interrupted our meal. Once we were back at the hostel we headed to the bar again and met Jorge, another Canadian and spent hours just talking and having a lot of laughs. The table we were at was almost like a watering hole I swear.. We were joined ...

    Excellent Hotel

    from NettieB

Have just stayed at this hotel, visiting Hamburg for its wonderful Xmas atmosphere and Xmas Markets. The hotel is located within 15 mins walk of the Rathaus, where the main shopping area is. There are also good restaurants close by . The rooms are clean, spacious and come with a kitchenette which is good to have. I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone and would definately stay here again.

    Excelente Hotel

    Perfect hotel room? Almost!

    from BrightonAndy

Well the reviews on Tripadvisor aren't wrong! My partner and I stayed in Hamburg over one of the busiest weekends of the year when a large conference and Oktoberfest overlapped and accommodation in the city was pricey, however the Madison's rates were well in the range that is usually offered by the hotel and therefore offered a fantasic deal. Booking direct via the hotel's website was quick and easy. On arrival I was greeted pleasantly and checked in quickly. The hotel is modern and stylish, the website gives an accurate reflection of the reality! My requests for a quiet room on a high floor were confirmed which is a refreshing change as booking requests are so often ignored! On entering the room I knew that we had chosen the right place. A large, light room with all the facilities you would expect (comfortable bed, space to work, excellent air-conditioning) and some you wouldn't (a spotless kitchenette area and a truly spacious bathroom). The hotel's owner has aimed to create the perfect hotel room...I reckon she's pretty much nailed it, the only niggle I had was the fact that you couldn't adjust the lighting, it would have been nice to have dimmed the lights in the late evening. Location wise the hotel is an easy, 10 minute walk into the city centre with the Reeperbahn about 25 minute walk away or a short bus ride. I would absolutely recommend this hotel and if I ever find myself visiting Hamburg again I won't even look for somewhere else to stay - I'll just go straight to the Madison.

    Wenn Hamburg, dann Madison.

    from olitz

    Surpassed even the amazing reviews

    from Adelai

We found this hotel based on Tripadvisor reviews and, once again, we were not disappointed. Imaginative, spotlessly clean, modern, stylish, every attention to detail, friendly, helpful, bright, superb breakfasts (and evening meals). But there was also a special something we've not experienced in any hotel before. It really felt like somewhere we could have stayed and lived in forever. The room (and it was only one of the cheaper ones) was spacious, comfortable, light, bright and with every possible amenity. We felt completely at home and were very reluctant to leave. It's situated a 5 minute walk from a convenient SBahn route, 2 stops to the Rathaus in one direction and 1 stop to the harbour in the other. Also only a few minutes walk to St Michaelis Church with amazing views of the city from it's tower. Although the immediate area of the hotel was largely a business area, it felt safe to walk back to at any time of day or night. This would not have been true of many other areas of the city centre. We would not stay anywhere else in Hamburg.

    The perfect hotel room?

    from Mayfair Ranger

The owner is said to have been on a mission to design the perfect hotel room. It seems she succeeded. Clean, spacious, supremely well-planned and comfortable. Great bathrooms also. Having a laundry room on each floor might be off-putting to some but to us was a huge bonus. Even as someone who tends to stay in top-end premises (i.e. who wouldn't typically launder their own underwear!) I thought this place was excellent. Good breakfast, with friendly waiters. Efficient reception staff. Location pretty good also.

Stayed here several times, keep coming back

    from spammie

we have stayed at the madison several times and have yet to encounter the first inconvenience. the staff goes out of their way to make every stay smooth and flawless.

requests for little extras are no problem at all and everything will be in top condition upon arrival. the suites are spaceous, light and airy, clean and modern with a little kitchenette that includes a fridge, coffee making ammenities and a small stovetop - should one feel like doing a little cooking. pots, dishes and silverware are provided as well. a parking garage is located below the hotel. a lovely spa is free to use for hotel guests. room service is top. the hotel's location is just a couple of minutes walk from the waterfront - set back just far enough forquiet but close enough for convenience. i cannot say enough. i would recommend the place to anyone.

    Almost flawless stay

    from anonymous

This is a very well-run and nicely appointed place. It is quite close to the Baumwell station of the U-Bahn from which major Hamburg attractions can easily be reached. Close by is the famous St. Michael's Church whose regular chiming, I found comforting and not at all disturbing. I only had breakfast at the restaurant so can't say much other than that meal was apleasant smorgasbord of cold meats, fish, cheese and the ubiquitous hard rolls. Internet service is available at a reasonable rate. There are many nice Portuguese restaurants a few minutes walk away and the famed Fisschmarket is a nice waterfront stroll of about 12-15 minutes. All in all, a great place to stay though not inexpensive.

    Great place
