Wel Come To Nepal

Well, after a long, LONG day of transit, we arrived in Kathmandu airport. Now forget everything you've ever heard about airport security, because if you wanted to pull something dodgy in this airport, all you'd have to do is wait until after the staff's bedtime. Seriously, these guys didn't give a **** about security; they just wanted to close up shop and go home! Apparently they'd already packed up the scanner and metal detector for the night, so we got the "honour system" security check and...

When to Go

The most likely time to see wildlife is after the February burns and before the monsoons start up again in May. Both parks close in May, and reopen at the end of September. October can be hot and lush, November less so, December and January are (comparatively) cold.

Tramping around Kathmandu

... usually in just one restaurant. Hisorically, as traders passed through Kathmandu over the centuries, it has always been known as a place you could get exotic foods. I had Italian, Japanese, Tibetan, American, Indian, more than twice each... though I must admit, I skipped the Nepali. (Not that it isn't good, its just not THAT good, and why settle when you can have whatever you want).

Trick or Treat Nepali Style

... I slowly got to my feet and joined in, much to the pleasure of the other dancers.

I could see it now. Not only would I join this merry band of Dipawali trick or treaters but I would be a valuable asset. What store owner could turn down a group with a ridiculous looking white guy in their midst.

As the song ended I was waiting for the congratulatory high fives and the invitation to go to the ...

I keep thinking that I will be like one of those women on “Tribal Wives”. Today Narbin showed me some photos of the villages where I will be staying. He was trying to prepare me for how basic life will be. I am a bit nervous about my ability to communicate but other than that I cannot wait to get there. When I told the lads last night what I was doing they were very impressed. They told me I would be able to hold court over the “ ...

In the evening when it became dark we sat at some tables on a wooden platform over the rushing water and gazed at the bright stars of the Milky Way while moths crowded around the small bulb of my torch.

The next day we were off on our first walk of any length and it was mostly uphill. Travelling along the valley of the river Bhurung, we passed at first through bamboo forests along tracks ...
