... The parade is accompanied by musicians in traditional Japanese costumes, quite an interesting and colorful event. The elephant made of paper is very large and being pulled by the boys with help of adults. We watch them parade around the Yubatake and go up the old, stone staircase to the Temple. We take a closer look at the Yubatake where the water gushes down day in day out, 4.000 liters of hot water per minute!

... speaks very little English, unfortunately we don't speak Japanese... We receive all kind of vouchers for dinner, breakfast, onsen elsewhere as well as information in Japanese. To the best of her abilities she explains that there is only wifi in the lounge. When we are about to go to our room an older staff member informs us that we do have wifi in the room after all. ... presented breakfasts we have ever had (food tasted great as well!). We really didn’t want to leave after being pampered so throughly during our stay.

Next we caught the brand new (just started operation on March 14th!) Hokuriku Shinkansen to Nagano. Being a new route, even the locals were taking pictures in front of the new train prior to boarding.

After storing our bags in a train station locker*, we picked up our Snow Monkey Park passes ...

... bus will leave at 1.15pm which it does. We arrive into Nagano at exactly 3.50pm, the time that is stated in the timetable. Talk about punctual service.
We walk the 500 metres to our hotel for the next 4 days. No more airbnb place for a while as there dont seem to be many this side, west side of the island. The hotel is very nice, and our room is huge by japanese standards. We even have real beds, unlike tokyo where we slept on ...

... are not as a high as the Alps the snow seems excellent.

The hotel at the airport was, well an airport hotel so not much write home about… but Japan on the other hand…

Can’t wait to chat to our Japanese friends back at JSK to explain what a country they’ve got.

I hope the kids remember and savour it as there won’t be many more interesting and fun countries they ...
