Bye bye Greek Islands...back to Athens

A travel blog entry by nicolapollard on Aug 06, 2014

After saying goodbye to Mykonos and the Greek Islands we had the worst ferry ride back to Athens! It was supposed to be 5 hours but was actually 6 and the aircon shat itself about half way through the journey and it seemed like the ferry was way over booked because it was insanely packed! Luckily it only got packed when we stopped at another island so I was able to grab an hour of sleep on the comfy chairs before being ...

    Paradise beach round 2

A travel blog entry by nicolapollard on Aug 04, 2014

... a very different atmosphere at this time of the day, no music yet and even kids! No idea why anyone would bring kids to paradise beach. After a couple of hours on the beach we got the most delicious frozen yoghurt but it was so expensive because you pour it yourself and add your own toppings then they weigh it to see how much it's going to cost. I reckon they will be making a killing off it! After fro yo we had ...

    Paradise beach, Mykonos!

Once again we had a cheap and cheerful gyros dinner then walked around the town a bit before sunset. Mykonos was built in the time when there was a big threat of pirate invasion so they made the streets really narrow and winding so the pirates would get lost. Because of this it is very easy ...

    Party boat in Paros x

A travel blog entry by nicolapollard on Aug 02, 2014

Today we took the ferry to our next island destination, Paros! Paros is known to be more of a chilled out island so we were looking forward to relaxing after a couple of hectic nights out in Ios. The ferry was 2.5 hours but it was a big boat so plenty of room to move around. We checked into our cute little hotel and already could feel a more chilled atmosphere. Finally we had a smaller room with only 3 of us ...

... so small that if you do get lost you just keep walking and eventually find your way on one edge or the other.

The island itself seems to be quite a strange beast. First of all it is inhabited almost entirely by tourists. As Kostas explained only about 10,000 people actually live on the island permanently. In the summer however, droves of tourists and temporary workers flock here and the population expands by about ten times! The entire industry ...
