It's really hard to believe that two months have already gone by and I'm now in the final phase of my trip. I'm very much looking forward to a lot of the things I have planned for the next few weeks, but at the same time, I'm definitely ready to enjoy the familiarity of home and see my family again :). Constantly moving around to different places can get pretty exhausting both physically and mentally, and in many ways it has been a growing experience for me - I'm ...

Today was a public holiday (see yesterday's entry) and everything was closed except the cafés which were doing a great business. The sun was out for a lot of the day too.

The school kids were out in force again with their marching and drumming and having a great time. There were priests and lots of dignataries laying wreaths and then more marching and drumming through the lined streets. It was quite moving to see.

The scenery is quite spectacular and not how I imagined a Greek Island!

At one road junction we came across a Greek man selling fruit from the back of his truck. He came over to the car and was keen to chat with us telling us his wife was from Sydney. He then insisted we go and look at his fruit. He told us he came from six generations of farmers on Naxos.

      He kept ...

... re staying around the corner at George's Beach.

Tonight we went for a walk and came across a Naming Party in the street behind ours. There was a Greek band and lots of dancing that took over the street. Every so often a car would come down the street and the dancers would flow up the side street to let the car through.

      Greece is the Word

Naxos was a wonderful choice for our first Greek island experience. With accommodations 150m away from the beach and 200m away from the town's main promenade, we were perfectly positioned in Chora. Caleb's schooling routine now established, he began the day with 1hr "Phys. Ed." With dad on the beach, 2hrs of the R's with me, lunch, and then time to explore before dinner at a seaside taverna. What bliss.

Beyond the town lies greater Naxos: tiny villages ...
