... bliss of dawn meditations as rural India came to life and hearing lions roar from a nearby safari park. Afternoon yoga class as a tropical thunderstorm rolled in bringing sweet rain to clear the hot clammy air, and then just being in the midst of this peaceful , accepting, multicultural community.
So, in my head, one minute I was going to leave the next day and go somewhere with fewer rules, or at least ones that suited me, the next I'd tell myself ...

... wore a shirt, with picture of an undone shirt, with a superman S poking through. It was a green light for jokes and many laughs were had between us, his lovely wife, and son, Abraham. They could speak Arabic, live in Kuwait and looked Middle Easternish - that's all I knew about them.. And that they were warm friendly, like the weather here. They were great value and even extended me an invitation to their private fishing charter... Too bad it was on my departure ...

... the ferry I decide to fully explore the city and realize there is more to Male than meets the eye.

While not a huge variety of sights I did manage to fill half a day.

I tried to visit the national museum but it was closed so I head for the Friday Mosque. Originally built in the mid 1600's this mosque was made out of coral stone and is ornately decorated in Islamic tradition. The cemetery surrounding the mosque boasts a variety of coral ...

... was a structure initially built as a palace and also used a the presidential residence in the past. Unfortunately the sea has no beach as it is encircled by seawalls.

Sultan palaces and elegant mosques stand along streets paved with white coral sand and dappled by the shade of graceful palms. High on visitors’ lists are Hukuru Miskiy mosque, Sultan park and the greens of Republic square.

... Jusqu'a recemment, les touristes devaient obligatoirement se limiter aux" iles-resorts." Il leur etait interdit d'entrer en contact avec la population, sauf a Male; bien entendu. Il y a cinq ans, une auberge pour les touristes en plein village comme la mienne, c'etait inexistant.Par contre, cet apres-midi, j'ai entendu du Celine Dion dans un resto-bar ou on vendait de la biere non alcoholisee.
