... with a church from the 1200's. Once back in France we visited one more town, Turckheim which had a moat and town gates. The moat is now a grassy area and garden for the residents. We saw one happy frolicking dog in one grassy area of the most! On our way back to Colmar, we stopped at E-Leclerc - the Super Wal-Mart of France and bought some cheese, wine, foie-Gras, beer and crackers for our evening and went back to Maison des Tetes to pack up for our early morning ...

We got sparkling water and a lovely bread basket brought to us. They had salted butter and unsalted butter for our bread. That's a first for us. First we were served a plate of beginers. Our first course was a foie Gras with figs and an autumn salad with a very light balsamic vinaigrette to cut ...

Still cool, but with sunny intervals. Decided to stay an
extra night here, to explore the local area.

Spent the morning housekeeping. Afternoon ride into
nearby, lakeside town of Gérardmer. Very pleasant forested, countryside around
here, with pretty chalet type houses. Lots of walks and cycle rides, with
    skiing in the winter ...

Colmar, a hidden surreal behind the old town

... lovely company.Little did I explore in this old town on my trip and yet left out a lot of “must-sees” for my next visit. On the top of the list would definitely be “Musée Bartholdi” and “The Statue of Liberty”. Yes! For its creator, Auguste Bartholdi was a native of Colmar. Knowing what lies beyond the old town of Colmar, one wouldn't want to return without the boat ride on the canal.
