So I thought staying out until 3 am wouldn't be so horrible because Friday was el Dia de San Sabastian (or something like that) - basically it's a National Holiday in Spain - so nothing's open. So, we decided that we would head to Granada at the south of Spain instead. Our train left at 11am so we had to wake up anyway - ugh, it was horrible! At least the train ride was about 4 hours so we got some rest on the way there. I wish I could have slept the entire 4 hours but I wasn't so lucky - I w...

... also amazing. We made our way to a park, which had so many trees, and there was an exhibit on the environment. I thought it was cool how there was a picture there of Canyon de Chelly all the way in Spain. I don't even thing Canyon de Chelly is a well known place in general. After walking around I really wanted some famous free tapas and we got some. A euro fifty for a cana and a free tapa. They gave me some kind of chicken and vegetables. It was ...
Granada, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands skivail89... how it is. Many teachers don´t like their schedules but they don´t ask to change it because if all the teachers wanted a certain schedule to fit their needs it would be chaos, yada yada yada. Then they brought up the fact that I had gone to complain about them to the Delegation of Education in the first few days and that my actions had consequences and that Maria Dolores had been calling them every week to see how I was doing... news to me!

The ...

Orgiva, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands debdeb80... chance to have photos with the Rocks very own breed of monkey. They are unique to Gibralta and have no tail. They are very calm even posing for photos with us!

We hired a taxi and had a tour of the rock and impressive caves within the rock. The caves are apparently some of the oldest and deepest in the world and they have even set up an ampi theatre inside the caves for music performances... very cool.

Anyway we made it to the top of the ...

Magnificent carved, gilt altarpiece depicted St John the Baptist being beheaded and another saint being boiled alive! Up early to avoid the queues at the Alhambra. Saw some amazing architecture at the Palace of the Nasrid Kings which is built around two courtyards and had intricately carved halls and rooms off these, including the Hall of Amassadors where ...
Granada, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands journeauxAfter a frigid night of sleep, Millis and I woke up around 1:00pm since we had nothing to do in the morning and no idea how to navigate Granada. We grabbed a quick sandwich (more or less a Club sandwich) from the closest Café. Millis and I decided to be excessively positive/optimistic to the extend of being obnoxious for the following reasons: 1) Everyone was obviously miserable, upset, and dissatisfied with their living ...

So all in all, the flamenco show was just alright--I'm not sure I'd go again, but I'd love to take a flamenco class or something.

This was definitely an incredibly long day. If someone were to ask, "What did you do on June 18, 2008?" I would have a wonderful answer, probably better and more interesting than theirs.
Granada, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands ashleylutt... Center and it totally blew my mind. It is no surprise why that place was nominated to be one of the 7 wonders of the world. As well it obvious why the Alhambra was such a strong military strong hold, invaders had to scale hundred foot walls that sit on a super steep hill. People that did try do invade were greeted with the military of the Alhambra dumping boiling caldrons of oil (animal fat) and dropping huge boulders at them. OUCH ...
Granada, Spain gibby186x... the city blossomed into Renaissance splendor. After a brief decline in the 19th century, Granada has recently been the subject of renewed interest as efforts are being made to restore parts of the city.

In contrast to American cities which for the most part are laid out in grids, these Spanish cities are literally mazes, with streets ending, curving and intersecting without any consistency. After a few weeks, I've begun to figure out Sevilla, but Granada seemed ...
