Made it down the bay overnight

Survived a wild ride down the bay. Some of the roughest conditions we have experienced on the Chesapeake. Big waves. 30+ kt winds and lots of driving rain. Enjoyed our new cockpit enclosures as well as the heater we installed below. The AIS system which allowed us to identify ships during the night was a big help.

Navy ships don't use AIS so we slowed to enter Hampton Roads after sunrise. Still, with heavy ...

    Disappointing Virginia Beach!

... As we approached Virginia Beach we were buzzed by FA 18's fighter jets overhead! We soon found out we were camped near the Navel Air Station Oceana, the only Jet Base on the East Coast. We were serenaded with their daily training flights - or the sound of freedom! One night we had helicopters (I think) overhead until 1:30am YES in the middle of the night! They seem to be doing circuits for hours & hours. Needless to say we were not thrilled ...

... about stopping for Starbucks, decided against it (for now) and arrived at the beach mid-morning. We were blessed with another gorgeous day, although initially the wind was quite strong on the shore. The waves soon took made short work of my intentions to only get half wet, but it was rather pleasant! We ...

... and suddenly my purse appeared! It was a miracle! I was overwhelmed with joy! And of course bought Dipan dinner to return the favor.

After yummy Outback, we hung out by the river for awhile watching the sunset and Joel taught me a little about the boats (He works in the shipyard). We talked for awhile but when it got dark we had to head home :/ Me and joe said our goodbyes and road tripped back up north.

I can't wait to see all everybody again in Dec!

    Day 0: Getting There

... my bike and duffel are there! Yay! I leave my bike with a nice security guard at the information desk and proceed to have a little lunch, call my mother, and check emails. As I'm walking back down to collect my bike, a guy approaches me - "hey, are you doing Bike and Build?!" Why yes, yes I am-could you tell by the giant neon reflective safety triangle I have on my backpack? He introduces himself as Kaho and just like that, I have met my first teammate for the ...
