Orientation and a lot of walking
... cards (which are only for zones 1-6 so I wouldn't be able to go back to Hertfordshire). Kingston is zone 6.
After we gathered information and registered, we took a walking tour of Kingston. It's really nice. There are a lot of shops, a mall, the riverside and all sorts of entertainment. It's the safest borough in London apparently and a nice little community. The campus was relatively small, but there are other ...
Bad Golfer Theory
... br> Throughout the late autumn and winter, there is always someone on the course during the day. In the rain, in the sleet, in the cold and in the frost, there are golfers. The only days when the golf course has been empty has been when it was covered by snow and once the snow was off the fairways, the golfers returned.
When we moved into our rental home, we found several golf balls in the garden. Usually we ...

We shall see you all soon, and I will be returning to Sweden again shortly - will let you know when.
Thank you again, and one last `adios amigos´.

Historical Traveler Reviews Lythe Hill Haslemere
Lythe Hill Hotel and Spa
What a beautiful hotel!
We stayed at the hotel booking through lastminute(-). What a fantastic hotel! The secluded location was exactly what we were looking for. The hotel has a lot of grounds and a picturesque lake if you like scenery. The hotel staff were very friendly and we were even given a free room upgrade which was brilliant.
The hotel boasts a Spa which has a gym, swimming pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. The swimming pool is really nice with huge windows overlooking the hotel land.
Breakfast was good. The hotel even managed to turn a traditional british fry up into a fantastic gourmet meal!
Dinner wasn't much to shout home about especially if you're vegetarian. The hotel really would benefit by getting rid of the overpriced, boring French restaurant and replacing it with a good old fashioned curry house! Credit does go to the restaurant for bringing out the chef personally to wish my girlfriend a happy birthday and making a special cake for her.
Overall the stay was brilliant. The hotel exceeded our expectations which were high! Keep up the good work!
Superb spa and great service
My fiance and I stayed at Lythe Hill for a night (Friday) in Feb 2006 and were very impressed overall. The room and ensuite were huge and well appointed. Two beds were pushed together to make a queen size bed, very comfortable though. A mini bar would be a welcome addition to the room, as would bath robes. Lovely gardens to stroll around, with a small lake and swans. The spa was superb - clean and well equipped, with unlimited use on the day of departure. Unfortunately all treatments were fully booked during our stay. Unobtrusive but attentive service in the bar and restaurant. We found the bar to be very smoky, so went back to our table in the restaurant with our after-dinner drinks. Great value for money - £129 for a double room, 3 course dinner, full english breakfast and full use of spa. The hotel sign could do with a clean up - first impressions last! A peaceful and relaxing place to get away from it all.
Fantastic Winter Warmer at Lythe Hill
My husband and I have just come back from Lythe Hill where we indulged in their Winter Warmer package. I cannot rate the hotel, its staff or facilities highly enough ! We arrived at 1.15 on Saturday and although the web site said that we would be unable to check in until 2pm the Reception staff were very friendly and helpful and we checked in straight away.
Our room was cosy, clean, spacious and inviting. We spent the afternoon enjoying the all-inclusive spa and treatment and played tennis on the outdoor court. This again was well organised, clean and very pampering.
The deal included a 3 course meal at the French Restaurant attached to the hotel.Well, absolutely delicious food! Beautifully presented by staff who have perfected the art of being welcoming and friendly without being too much. We stayed in the restaurant until gone 1am and the staff were incredibly accomodating and cheerful.
Breakfast this morning was scrumptious- freshly cooked and with the option of freshly baked pastries. No food warming under lights here !!
We certainly fell on our feet with this hotel. I highly recommend it, especially if you make use of one of their deals. We paid £99 and that covered room, 3course dinner, membership of spa, treatment at spa ( value up to £50 )full English breakfast.Excellent !!
Excellent value - good choice
Myself and my girlfriend recently stayed in the Lythe Hill, taking advantage of their Winter Warmer deal - £99 (for two people) which includes the room, one spa treatment, dinner and breakfast! We were lucky in the fact we were upgraded to a suite room with a large bathroom with jacuzzi but even if we hadnt we thought the place was great - fantastic spa complex, grounds and facilities. The evening meal was excellent too. Beautiful tudor dining room which was very authentic and the food was very good too. I would consider it somewhat expensive to eat here if you were not using this deal, however. The drinks (which are extra) arent cheap but considering the great vaule of the overall deal this wasnt a problem. A couple of the previous reviews we read on this site werent great, but we'd heartily recommend this choice. It may well make a difference if there was a big wedding going on which i guess is more of an issue in the summer.
Excellent value
Excellent hotel!
Took my boyfriend there for a birthday surprise on the Winter Warmer package. £99 (for the room, NOT per person!)for dinner, B&B. Also included a free spa treatment up to £50 in value and access to the Spa facilities. Amazing value!!!
Was able to chose the room off the website and it was better than expected. Very comfortable with sofa (George Bernard Shaw room).
Food and service excellent and staff very helpful. I would highly recommend this hotel and would certainly stay there again.
Stuffy and overpriced
Set in the Surrey Hills - but backing on to a busy (and fast) road, Lythe Hill Hotel is set in 20 Acres of beautiful grounds. It has a magnificent heated indoor pool and spa centre. That's about it as far as the good points go. Unfortunatley they spend too much of their time catering for wedding parties at the weekend to care about the other guests staying there. The restuarant boasts classic french cuisine, but delivers mediocre dishes at high price (£29 for a steak main dish!), served by stuffy staff. The wine list is as descibed, "outstanding", but in my view this merely describes the prices - not the content. Rooms are average size, and in some cases small. The suites compromise on space, squeezing in a small bathroom to allow for a small sitting room - when the bedroom area is good. Its a shame really, with a bit of a redecortation, thought and good staff training, this could be a reall winner. Maybe they make enough from the weddings to care about the rest.
Much to be desired for the price
This is a tired hotel which was actually described as Fawlty Towers by staff on our arrival! Despite obtaining a cheap deal, this hotel is overpriced. Rooms are rather tired and the communal rooms are unwelcoming. On Saturday night the hotel was taken over by a wedding party, which meant there were no quiet areas for a drink. If we had been sleeping in the main part of the hotel it would have been very difficult to sleep through the disco. Staff were also quite rude and unprofessional.
It was a different story for the on site spa though, where staff were welcoming, professional and definate hit with the children. Gold stars for the spa.
Overpriced and tatty
This hotel has a fabulous website but unfortunately doesn't live up to it. The rooms are small and a little jaded - which about sums up the rest of the hotel. We chose our room baased on the pictures on the website and think they must have a very good photographer! A number of the rooms and the restaurant are separate from the main building, which isn't a problem but I think the rooms near the restaurant must be quite noisy. Breakfast was served in the main hotel itself in a most peculiar room. The buffet was distinctly average although the hot breakfast was fine. The auberge restaurant was dark and dingy, although the staff were very nice. The menu was limited and they were very inflexible ( I have a mushroom allergy and they seemed unable/unwilling to adjust dishes to take this into account). The food in the bar was OK but slow and the bar wines were expensive, not much choice and white wine was warm! This hotel needs a bit of TLC in my opinion and is over-priced for what it is!
Worth a stay.
Stayed in the Anne of Cleeves suite for 2 nights in June, an interesting suite above the French restaurant in the old building. Only complaint about the room itself is the headroom. If, like me, you're 6 foot+, choose another one. I have the scars to remind me of the times I forgot to duck in doorways. Restaurant itself very good with friendly, attentive service. Overall, worth a stay.
Friendly Lythe Hill
Food and service in the hotel is fantastic. The place is clean and beautiful. The Spa facilities are good, child friendly and a good selection of beauty therapies to choose from.
