Good rooms, good value
from OPtraveler51 on 2004-10-15
Good rooms, good value, great staff.
Wonderful location, steps from the metro and easy walking to many sights. Skip the in house breakfast and opt for fresh pastries nearby. Our room at the front was exposed to street noise, a room at the back would be perfect. I stayed here with 2 girlfriends and when my husband and I return we will stay here instead of the over-priced hotel we stayed at on our last visit.

i have stayed at this hotel over 20 times since 1990. i have seen all the changes and it keeps getting better. the staff is great and the area is one of the best in paris. there are many good resturants, bars, cafes, great sights and anything you might need all within walking distance. i hope to stay there many more times.
Location, location, location!

I stayed at the Lyon - Mulhouse in April 2004. It is located less than half a block from the Bastille Metro station. From here you have the nightlife of the Bastille, shopping, movie theatres, and the new Paris Opera House all within a one block radius. It is just a five minute walk to the charming Place des Vosges, go five minutes in another direction and you are at the cool Viaduct des Arts!
I have travelled to Paris almost every year since 1995, and have stayed in many buget hotels, this one was the best all around for location, comfort, and safety.
The staff were helpful, always quick with a smile and some local knowlege. They graciously allowed me to use their fridge to store my snacks! The breakfast was acceptable, however with so many great pastry shops and coffee places I passed on it most mornings. They will deliver it to your room...which is nice.
The room I had was #8; it faces the street and has a cute Juliette balcony on which one can take great photos of the Bastille statue! For a budget hotel it was great! Clean, sweet mulitilingual staff, comfortable room with desk, night tables, television, good sized storage closet, and in room adjustable heating. With the window shut, no street noise at all! Not all rooms have a bathtub, ( mine had a shower stall only) so if that is important ask for a room with one.
There were French business travellers,as well tourists of all ages, and nationalities staying at this little place, so you will not feel like you are on the American trail. In fact I intend to stay there again soon! Bon Voyage!
Plain and simple

My husband & I, along with our 11-month old daughter, stayed at Lyon Mulhouse in early September for 4 nights. We really enjoyed our stay there. From what everyone had told us about Paris, I was expecting an extremely small room with not much of a bathroom. However, I was pleasantly surprised by our rather comfortably sized room. Our hotel room had a queen bed and a crib, with plenty of room for our luggage, and a nice sized closet. Our bathroom was as large as I would expect in the U.S., and it had a separate room for the toilet. I would agree with the other reviewers that the furniture & decor of the rooms is a bit old & outdated, but we didn't mind.
We were literally steps away from the metro, which was important to us because we had baby with us. On the other hand, the Bastille stop is not the most convenient. Something on the yellow line would have been perfect. If you do not mind transferring, then this is still a good location. We never tried the breakfast at the hotel, but that's because we loved going to the nearby cafes & patisseries.
This hotel is a clean, no frills hotel with a friendly and helpful staff. I have no problems recommending this comfortable but modest hotel.
Large rooms, great location!

We stayed at the Lyon Mulhouse for 3 nights in late August/early September. I have been to Paris before and it was very important to me to find a hotel in a good location that was not too expensive. This hotel was perfect. It is located in the heart of the Bastille area mere feet from a metro stop. If you take the Eurostar in to Gare du Nord, you can take the Metro No. 5 line directly to the hotel. So convenient! We could take an incredibly picturesque walk to Notre Dame in 15-20 minutes, strolling along the river and through the quaint streets of Ille St. Louis over to Ille de la Cite. The Bastille neighborhood itself is wonderful--I particularly liked Cafe de Francais and Cafe Falstaff which are located near the hotel. There are lots of great shops in the area. The hotel itself was nice--the bathrooms are beautiful, large, and newly renovated. The rooms were large as well for Paris and while the decorations were a bit dated it wasn't bad and the beds were comfortable. Great windows. The staff was very friendly. We never did try the breakfast, but there are so many wonderful Cafes and pattisseries in the area there was no need to. One thing to note--this hotel had that terrible tube hairdryer that we always seem to find in Paris, which is hardly like a hairdryer at all--more like a vacuum that pushes air out instead, and not very much at that, so if this bothers you bring your own. All in all, I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Paris! Wonderful value for the price.
Nice Hotel and staff

This Hotel was a great experience. The staff (and I mean everybody) was always friendly and helpful with any question we had. They speak english.
Our room (6 Bis) was clean, nice, confortable, big (for a room in Europe) and included a clean re-furnished bathroom.
And, best of all, is in a good, safe-to-walk-at-night neighborhood with cafes, drugstores, mini-marts, etc, and just a few steps of a metro station, which is a good way to go everywere in this so beautiful city.
I miss it.....
Our favorite hands down

Our families have stayed here many times and we find ourselves coming back here. We've stayed at many hotels in Paris and although it's not fancy, it has warmth and history. The staff is awesome and go out of their way to make your stay wonderful. The hotel is close to the metro and the neighborhood is full of great restaurants, parks, and history.
That's what keeps us coming back!
Good value & large rooms
from benj2008 on 2004-03-07
We stayed there in June 2002. It was perfect for us-close to metro & very nice rooms. Our room window opened onto a back area of a restaurant so it was noisy with the kitchen sounds but not all night. It does have an elevator too.Breakfast was extra & I would pass unless you are too tired to go out. There are patisseries nearby where you can get coffee & pastry to die for. No a/c though but even in June it was ok.
Mulhouse is a cool-house!
from trek4sun on 2004-01-18
The Lyon Mulhouse is a friendly, clean, welcome place to stay in Paris.
My wife and I have stayed there a total of 3 times (Summer 2000 & 2002, Jan 2003). It is close to the Metro, good restaurants, and the best wine shop (Caprices l'Instant). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at L.M.
The staff is super friendly, the rooms are clean, and if you don't need a plush/posh place to stay, this place is affordable, in a good location, and worth every penny. They even provided an ice bucket and went across the street to borrow ice from a restaurant to give us so that we could cool off some Champagne for my wife's birthday celebration!
Great Value

I liked the Lyon Mulhouse. My husband and I stayed there in March 2003.
It is steps from the metro station, which we found to be very convenient after hours of being on our feet sightseening all day. It is also near many restaurants and there is a internet cafe around the corner. We had a room facing the street and we were never bothered by the traffic noise (or any other noise for that matter). The entire room was spotless and the bed was comfy. There is a very small elevator, but with luggage, it was much better than no elevator.
The staff were pretty helpful and all spoke english. I would stay here again for sure. I didn't give it 5 stars because it didn't have the charm that small botique hotels might have, but that wasn't a problem for us since the Lyon Mulhouse fit perfectly into our buget.
