We had a very nice breakfast at the hotel after sleeping in. Hopefully, the lack of sleep over the last 4-5 days is finally being corrected. For being a Hilton "cool guy" we get the breakfast free. It was a fairly standard Hilton breakfast buffet with a few French twists. You could make a salad for breakfast. Each item for the salad being displayed …
cannes- was beautiful...we cruised along the coast, it was hard not to get lost in the scenery and forget to take heed of the constant changing of gears (to avoid the "tink" of helmets colliding). We found our hotel, the impossible to miss historic Carlton Intercontinental hotel(see Pic). I kept guard over our bags while steve went to check out …
... the tour was over we made one more stop at L'Atelier de la Soierie. This silk workshop has been in business and passed through generations since 1865, and they make all their scarfs in house, some still hand painted. Beautiful pieces...and reflected in the prices!! We finished off our days with some awesome pizza france style....super super thin crust like I've never seen! We have all our back packed and ready for morning. Will be headed for the airport by 7:30 (1:30 canada time). ...
... ones who can only offer me relief work and only three hours on Wednesdays. Gahhh! But she was lovely and I explained my situation to her, just that I still have some interviews to go to and I'll just have to see how they go and whether I decide to live in Lyon or St Etienne, because St Etienne are offering me full-time hours. Which she understood completely. You know, I have to be able to pay rent and live comfortably. So I do have to make the decision that was right for me. ...
We arrived by train, checked into the Le Cep Hotel. Quite lovely! See room pics. The damp rainy weather continues, but what can you do. Beaune is known as the wine capital of the Burgundy region and rightly so! We didn't plan for closures of shops and restaurants on Sunday and Monday, so we got ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Hilton Lyon
Firstly this is a very nice modern hotel near an almost complete convention centre and right on the banks of the Rhone. I can't understand why a convention centre should have such poor transport links though. To explain to get to the Hilton from Lyon airport you can take a taxi (somewhere between 50-80 Euros each way) or you can take the airport bus to the centre but then you need to take a metro and a bus to get to your hotel - madness. Similarly to get to Centre Ville from the hotel requires a number 4 bus and then a metro which is just a nuisance. You can purchase a Day Pass for just over 4 Euros and this is valid on buses, metro and the furniculars
Have just returned from a 5-night stay at this hotel and was hugely impressed. Booked in advance meaning the room was only about 80€ per night and was truly outstanding value for money.
Some reviewers on this site have criticised the hotel as being too far from the city, but there is a frequent bus service (every 10 minutes at least) which connects with the Metro system to access the old town, and this operates until well after midnight. My friend and I went into town several times a day and never found this arduous.
If possible, ask for a river view when booking as this is far superior to the park view. Simply stunning views!
Service at the hotel was excellent, room service thorough, and staff very helpful and respectful. I would definitely stay there again!
The Cite Internationale is still under construction but work is away from this Hotel at the Western end of this slightly isolated business/ arts development adjacent to a huge and gorgeous park. Contempory art museum with cafe, movie multiplex, multiple restaurants are next door or inside the building. Considering the rate on their website and perks of being a frequent Hilton guest this was great value. The public transport is clean, timely, frequent and cheap and a nice way to sightsee the "rest" (i.e. not the UNESCO center) of the city and observe everday life. The #4 and #47 buses are right outside. There's valet parking which was great since we had an very early flight out and drove ourselves out of town to an awesome meal at Paul Bocuse.
Fantastic. More than I expected
Thank you very much for a wonderful stay, your hotel is well run, tidy with extremly good value for money. Others have disputed your location, but you are actually quite close to the nice end of town. In addition, your location next to an extremely beautiful park made for lovely morning and evening strolls.
My only quibble is, 29 Euros for a buffet breakfast........ Right.......
Great room service, very spacious rooms with balconys, and impeccible customer service typical of finest French hotels.
Just Perfect !
Friendly staff, great location, amazing restaurants.
Just perfect !
Due to a large international forum on Life Sciences taking place in Lyon last week, the hotel capacity in Lyon was fully booked with 4,500 visitors...
Transport problem solved
hotel comfortable, rooms spacious, some overlooking Rhone. Staff friendly and helpful. Beautiful park Tete d'Or just behind. Transport links must have improved since previous reviews. Get a one day metro/tram/bus ticket from metro station on arrival in Lyon - current cost 4 euros 20. You can get metro to Foch and then nearby no 4 bus direct to rear of hotel. Buses are modern and run every 10 minutes till after midnight. Return journey, no 4 bus to Foch (Roosevelt) and then adjacent Foch metro links into metro network - total journey time from hotel to central Lyon approx 20 mins. Validate ticket in machines at each entrance. Ticket valid all day.
Stayed at the Hilton Lyon in October '03. Lovely hotel - modern, clean & all the facilities that you could need (it is even in the same complex as a cinema and casino!). Noticed the previous views about the distance from the old town, didn't realise that the Hilton advertised being "within walking distance of the old town" as it is some walk! The previous reviewer was ripped off because our taxi fares varied between 10-12Euro (about $10-12 I believe). With the hotel being quiet while we were there, we were upgraded to an executive room foc. The standard of room was fantastic and the view over the park was great to get up to in the morning. Overall we enjoyed our stay in Lyon & we were glad we chose the Hilton.
Not a great location
Hotel is on the out side of the town, about a 10 Euro taxi fare to the "old town". Hotel worked well for us, but is in now way walking distance to the "old town" Hotel staff was very willing to help with all requests. Clean and Modern.
This hotel was advertised on the Hilton Website as being with in walking distance of the old city. It is actually a $30 taxi ride EACH way. Very inconvenient location to anything. You are surrounded by construction zone and not within walking distance of anything outside the Hotel complex. The rooms are spacious, modern, and well equipped but this hotle is VERY inconvenient for business or tourism. It would be an okay place to hold a conference if you weren't interested in leaving the hotel. Executive lounge was very nice.
