... wandering through the markets and got caught in a massive down pour - we sought refuge in the spice market (not quite sure I could of tolerated the smell of the fish market for that long) and we stayed for tea with one of the shop owners and ended up having lemon and sugar pancakes while we waited for the rain to stop (pancakes with lemon pulp, not juice!! yum!)... The shop owner was running around with a broom pushing the ...

Oludeniz, Muğla Province, Turkey lerouxsimardThe stranger in the Istanbul Metro station (along with everyone else who told us this) was wrong. The first day we arrived in "beautiful, sunny" Fethiye, they had the biggest storm they had seen in years. We had plans for a boat trip, or hiking to Butterfly Valley, but with the rain, those were out of the question. So instead we went to Oludeniz, a blue lagoon that we were also told it needed to be sunny in order to ...

Fethiye-Alınca, Muğla Province, Turkey lerouxsimard... a bush on the beach, the only shade we could find, until at 5 our ferry taxi was to take us back to town. We had decided the walk down the cliff was enough. We can tell you the ferry taxi back was unbelievably rough, maybe it would have been easier to climb the cliff.

That night when reaching our hostel we were so exhausted we dropped down into our unexpectedly comfortable beds and were out like lights.

Tomorrow we head to Rhodes.
Fethiye, Muğla Province, Turkey dinoshona... the next cheapest thing I found here was 50 TL far from the center.
It's called FUNYA Hotel and it's right next to the bazaar facing the harbor (near the four palm trees circle).
The owner, Sarda, has a stern appearance, but is actually very nice.
Enjoy.
Fethiye, Turkish Aegean Coast, Turkey yorron... There was also plenty of time spent just laying around on the deck and enjoying the sun. We were being served three big meals a day, and it was great traditional Turkish food, all freshly made. In the evenings we were playing cards over a few drinks and watching the fishing jump in the water. Highlights: Butterfly Valley - Nice beach that was home to a bohemian (mostly expat) community who live in tents, grow ...
Fethiye, Turkey justinrowe... the boat harbour, it is clear that the crew is nervous. and we make a few circuits before dropping the anchor off a wide, but exposed gap between docked boats. Have one attempt to get in, but it doesn't look promising, so circulate a couple of times before dropping anchor off an impossibly small gap between boats, a lot closer in, and more sheltered. With a lot of buffers over the side of the boats involved, and passengers and crew ...
Fethiye, Turkish Aegean Coast, Turkey diannemurray... adequately in photos since the depth of the gorge and enjoyment of the adventure didn't translate well. You'll see that the hike starts out easily enough on a wooden walkway above the "river" (more like a stream) leading to some lounging and eating decks built on top of the water. From here you begin the actual hike by donning watershoes and having local boys assist you across the stream for a small tip. It's funny because people are trying not ...
Fethiye, Turkish Aegean Coast, Turkey rnriggins... springs. After being in the warm ocean all day, jumping into these springs was a shock to the system! In fact, it was so cold that we hopped out of the water as fast as we had hopped in! Once back in town, Ahmed and I were once again craving the fish market, so we picked out our dinner and had it served up 20 minutes later. Once again, delicious! The next morning, I had plans to move on along the coastline, heading further East to a town called Kas (pronounced cash).
