... I prebooked my hostel and arranged a pickup so I didn't have to deal with the taxi mafia (and my lack of language ability) right off the bat. But as I had a very minimal amount of kwai (general term for Chinese money, also yuan and remimbi more officially; think bucks, dollars, and USD), my priority the next morning was an ATM (I was whisked out of the airport too quick to use one the night before). Auntie Rachel and I had a day to explore in the big city of Shanghai.

At 4:30 I was to meet the principals at the school for a photo in front of ...

Today Auntie Rachel and I joined our friend Jeff and his family for a day in the mountains!

First we took a long road trip on really windy roads. We saw so many farmers and it was so beautiful and green! When we reached the top of the mountain there was a really big, gorgeous lake! Next, we loaded up on the boat and went on a tour of the lake. It was so pretty!

After our tour on the lake we ...

... lesson. In doing Rosetta Stone, I've learned that I can speak the words rather well. I consider Chinese to be a rhythmic and musical language with the different tones. I think my background in music helps me to hear the tones and reproduce them, although I rarely know what I am saying. I often ask how to pronounce various words in Chinese, and probably sound childish repeating the simple syllables, but I ...
