Travelled from Amsterdam to Hongkong on Cathay Pacific airlines. After a 4 hour stop over, boarded a Dragon air plane to Ningbo. This was a shorter 1:55 hour flight. The local driver was waiting in his Chinese VW car. We drove for 1 hour to the Ferry station. Then caught the ferry to Zhoushan Island. The trip car and passenger ferry took 30 minutes. I think the last I wrote wrapped up last Saturday. On Sunday (June 19) Linda and I took the subway to visit YuYun Gardens, an old private garden in the French Concession section of Shanghai. It was quite lovely and reminded me a lot of Suzhou. We had lunch at a famous old restaurant. Buddhism has had a recent resurgence in China. When visiting Buddhist holy site one sees that religion is an important part of many Chinese. Besides tourists who come for the day or spend the night, most who come are pilgrims. They come to the island because its a holy site of Chinese Buddhism.
