Bangkok

Sawatdee ka/krup!! We arrived in Bangkok at 5:00 a.m. a day after the new year's day bomb blasts. Yet, one would never notice but for the daily front page newspaper articles. Daily articles appeared discussing the new government's investigations into corruption by the former prime minister (who is presently in Australia starting a new political party called the "Enjoy L...

Peace at Last

It was another early 7am start as we were driven to the Phuket Ferry Port the following morning. Boarding the old wooden ferry to Koh Phi Phi I was quite optimistic that at last we would see some of the beautiful scenery we had been searching for. The journey to the island would take about 2 hours and we spent the time below decks relaxing and researching the likely accommodation options on the island. At last the islands themselves came into view, the spectacular rocks rising almost vertical...

One Night in Bangkok ...

... other patron.

I landed back at Bangkok without incident. The flight was not sold out and I was able to stretch out in the emergency row with a vacant seat behind me. I picked up a meter taxi outside of the airport and he very aptly delivered me to the hotel I booked in Phuket. As we drove towards the hotel along a very narrow and long alley off of Sukhumvit Road I had a feeling of dread over take me. And then my fears were realised. The Sawasdee Inn – Sukhumvit ...

Do NOT face west, young bed!

... investment, or how much is your average foreigner willing to pay for rent, or in which areas of Bangkok do foreigners prefer to live, etc.

Well, if those would have been the questions, then there wouldn't be much point in living in Thailand, right? Hotel Fire, 'drama continues'

This early morning I was still in the street just watching Thailand's finest trying to put out the hotel fire, I must admit watching them in action I had no confidence. I was still trying to find out who was in charge to get some questions answered. I was talking to some other Europeans and they where part of a tour, so their tour guide took control of the situation and found alternative accommodation for them. I on the other hand was a solo ...

Sightseeing in Bangkok

... book reading. Around 3:45 I'm to meet M at the Tesco by On Nut. I go to meet her and we leave for Samut Prakan. First stop is the Erewan Museum. There is a huge 3 headed elephant statue. Around the building are beautiful gardens. We just managed to make it for the last tour at 5pm. The tour was completely in Thai but M tried to translate for me. This museum and statue were ordered built by the same man who had the ...
