We arrived at Rio airport around midnight and luggage cane off the belt fairly quickly. We had booked into the Luxor Hotel for the night and knew that it couldn't be far away as it was chosen as an airport hotel. In fact it couldn't have been more convenient. Day 2 in Rio
... the people were rehoused, without choice and charged 600 real a month. The president didn't actually visit after all that either!
We watched some boys do Capoeira, which is a Brazilian martial art combining elements of dance and music. Stacy got involved and showed off her Capoeira skills! Photos to follow!!

Van het bohemian 'Santa Teresa' tot het artisitieke 'Lapa', van de arme favelas tot het legendarische 'Copacabana', van het klassevoetbal in 'Maracana' tot 's werelds beste carnaval,.. Rio is HOT!! Een aanrader voor iedereen die op zoek is naar dat ietsje meer. Decadent, sensueel, onbezonnen, fantastisch,... eenmaal je van deze stad geproefd hebt wil je alleen maar meer!

This city is HOT, in every sense of the word!
... local drug gangs or militia (though some have recently been taken over by the local police), the communities themselves are often these vibrant, amazing little self-sustaining neighborhoods. We were apprehensive about going to visit--not at all because it might be 'unsafe' (we are always safe, moms!) ;) but because a lot of the tours seem to miss the whole point of going--they whisk you through the favela on Jeeps, pointing out the locals like they're zoo animals. ...
