We begrudgingly departed Paris for the champagne countryside....stopped off at a little, but well-known town of Eperney, home to world-renowned Champagne manufacturers in the "Champagne - Ardenne" region. Booking was at "Mercier", where our group was taken via slow & cleverly designed glass-doored elevator (allowed us to see artful depiction of …
We have had a wonderful day in the city centre of Luxembourg our feet and legs tired from the walking! We had read parking was at a premium so Sean did some research and found a huge car park about a 1km from town centre. We called into the tourist information to grab a map and then off we set to explore the old town. Found the central fruit, vege, meat and fish market - some amazing veges, so fresh, not to mention the most amazing array of fresh herbs to buy, huge selection. ...
... of the village. Enjoyed our picnic lunch, have done this now for a few days, have set up our picnic bag with plates, forks etc and then just buy bread rolls, salad, nice cheese and cold meats really enjoying being able to stop when we want and can eat anywhere! From here we drove to Belvaux which is about 20 Kms from Luxembourg city centre, the city itself was very expensive, ...
... the city centre and even shopped at the flea market at the William Square. After lunch we went to Echternach. Unfortunately we didnt have time to go to the lake which they are famous for. We were there to also just visit the basilica and walk around the city centre. We headed back at around 5pm. Lastly did I day that parking is free for Sunday?
... as well as tickets for the city hop-on hop-off bus. We had a very enjoyable hours' ride around on the top deck, even though there was no commentary. Once back we went in to the Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin, it was all lit with candles and very pretty, but there was a service taking place so we went down in to the crypt for a while. Then we wandered up past the Grand Duke's Palace to see the guards marching up and down. Opposite was a ...

It is a nice Hilton!!!
Just good things to say
We came for a week end and we had a big and nice room, upgrade in a Deluxe King junior Suite because I am HHonors Diamond
The building seems to be old but inside, nothing bad!
Fitness center with indoor pool and sauna
Restaurant: choice of a big buffet from 20 to 30 Euros if you want everything, or a la carte menu
Big breakfast buffet in the morning
Free parking, and a bus going to downtown just 1 minute from the entrance
Concierge so helpfull, he knows so many thing about Luxembourg
What else to say: I would definitly come back in the Hilton Luxembourg, now I could find it more easely than first time at night...
Avoid at all costs
I stayed for 6 weeks as part of a business trip
Tatty: Holes in carpet, mouldy bathrooms. In need of a refurb
OK, however complaints were not taken seriously, room upgrade was refused despite being a silver hilton honors member
OK, expensive for what you get - eat out
Stayed at the Hilton Luxembourg in August 2004. The hotel looked like it needed considerable refurbishment when we checked in but we had a complimentary upgrade to what we believe was a junior suite - although all the fixtures & fittings were old, they were in good condition. The public areas, however, still seemed very dated.
Should be 3 stars
For what you pay you get very little here. And services one would almost take for granted at a proper business hotel, like internet access, are charged extra at very high prices. Generally, the hotel feels run down and the service is so, so. If they had promoted this as a 3 star hotel and charge half the price I would have been satisfied.
The Hilton Luxembourg is so-so. I am an international traveler and stayed at this hotel during a study tour for my graduate program.
Stayed in the Hilton Hotel in Luxemburg, last March 2005, and was disappointed with our stay. We arrived with a very personable front desk personnel (one of the two good things that we experienced), who gave us a room with a nice view. However, the room had view but the central airconditioning seemed not to be working. We went out to enjoy the city. And when we returned and asked about it, they gave a reason it was still in winter-mode. Flimpsy excuse, when the hallway, the cafe and lobby had a wonderfully controlled temperature. It was only when I asked for a change of room, I was allowed to change. But the front desk personnel made it sound that it was my fault not to say I want to have a room with good air-conditioning. And to add to it, they were not even a bit apologetic about having a sub-standard room.
Needs a little TLC
My husband and I stayed at the Luxembourg Hilton for one night in July 2004. Our overall impression is that this hotel needs a little love. The interior was very dark and unimpressive. We were staying on the HiltonHHonors floor and the hallway was so dark you felt like you needed a flashlight. The staff were not very friendly or helpful. Simple questions were met with exasperation. I am sure there are some rooms with a nice view but ours faced a parking lot and another large building.
We did fill out a comment card for the hotel and received a very prompt letter from the general manager expressing his apologies for the staff and mentioned that upgrades to the hotel would be occurring in the future.
We got the Hilton Hotel to transfer us here as the Hilton was being refurbished and is not in the centre of Luxembourg.
Hotel was much better until it became Hilton
I stayed in the hotel several times, first it was Intercontinental and very good. Friendly service, clean rooms and the excellent restaurant "Les Continents". This restaurant is the reason for my yearly trip there - fantastic service, excellent food and the whole atmosphere is one of the best I have ever had. On my second visit it just became Hilton and even today, the inhouse directory is from Intercontinental is placed in the room. The hotestaff now is unfriendly and even if I stay once a year there I am not known there. The restraurant is still a must when you visit the city, the hotel not. Now the rooms are dirty, in a very bad condition and the minimum of unfriedly service is something you don't really want, when you come to a "good" hotel.
The Hilton was once very nice but over the years it is rundown and not kept up. Carpets worn out, sheets very thin, etc. Rooms are very small unless you upgrade at a price. Not a non-smoker friendly hotel. Lobby is filled with smoke and the ashtrays are inside the elevators! They only provide wash cloths the first night after that you have to ask for them and then they have a difficult time understanding you. It is out of town with no gift shop. You are stuck buying their water out of the minibar at a premium. The service was very poor in the main restaurant and the gourmet restaurant was closed while we were there. The plumbing is worn out and difficult to operate. They do have a nice breakfast buffet but most of the staff do not understand english which is surprising for Luxembourg. Being out of town it is quiet and they do have air conditioning in the rooms which is rare in Luxembourg.
