... except immigration, where we are harrased because we don't have an exit flight out of Indo yet (planned to book later from Bali) and we only have a 7 day visa. Luckily the rookie immigration officer screwed up and stamped my Visa without proof of my departure ticket but caught Chris. At this point I think the woke up the President of Indo to stamp Chris's Visa because they stamped mine and they knew that the airline ticket counters were not ...
Jakarta, Java, Indonesia bbender... of 4 or 5 with kids in front and squeezed between. We've seen a few kids sleeping but still holding and even a few kids standing on the seat hanging on to Dad's shoulders as he weaves and bobs through traffic, a veritable acrobat in training. Many passengers ride side saddle and are so relaxed with their bags or purchases (one had a new pet frog), barely holding on. I would be so nervous! Anyway, I am in awe more than repulsed. I know it's not safe but I can't help but admire the skill.
Jakarta, Java, Indonesia graceonthego... advice on how we should approach surfing once we got to Bali. Both Lisa and I are interested in learning to surf and are now considering buying some used (long and round tipped) boards and then selling them again before we leave. One beer turned into two very quickly, and then three and four, after which I lost count. Before I knew it, it was 8 PM and time for dinner. Lisa had already eaten some of the chicken satay street-meat earlier in the evening, but ...
Jakarta, Java, Indonesia aaronpolarbear... been hijacked by right wing twunts with twisted idologies and overly liberal paranoid bedwetters afraid of any form of national pride/patronism. Anyway Jakarta yes... So anyway the bus snaked its way through the countryside overnight and landed smack bang in jakarta. where id did little else other than eat, apply moisturiser, apply exfoliator to my heavily blistered shoulders, drank beer and talked to the locals, expats and other travellers. I ...
Jakarta, Java, Indonesia stewelee... the jeep. We were dropped in a town called Tasikmalaya from where we were to catch a train to our next destination: Yogyakarta. The train was some hours away, but due to the town being void of any touristic provision, we sat on the platform for several hours playing "Who am I?" and the "Name Game" - traveling is not always exciting. We had taken the trouble to pay for designated seats so we were a bit put out to find that when the ...
Bogor, Java, Indonesia joeandalex... amp; beri berapa yang dia minta. Orang sini ada ilmu pujuk, tu yang aku gagal. Disebabkan lapar (kami ambik hotel tanpa sarapan), aku terus memesan Bakso Urat Spesial. Aku terpegun dengan customer service orang sini. Walaupun kiosk kecil, aku diminta duduk dulu. Mereka akan menghantar makanan yang aku pesan. Seolah-olah perkataan 'Layan Diri' tak wujud di sini.

Jakarta, Indonesia mettetimmermansTurns out that my previous Travelblogs on www.travelblog.org are not working so I've had to create a new blog on this site...hope this gets to everyone on the previous mailing list (or that the other one gets back online soon). Either way, here it is. "Shin kah kah" means " no worries" in Balenese.....and so it is the culture here in Bali. I've been staying in a little place in Legian on the southwest coast ...
Legian, Indonesia sgregory... often in the fork of a branch--amazing that the orangutans don't fall out, but apparently they sleep very still. Wanda gauges the height of both the nest and the tree, the type of tree, and if the nest is fresh or old, which we duly note in two notebooks (a backup is always kept in case of dunkings in the river or a sudden monsoon). As we ascended in the 90-degree heat, boots and hands scrabbling among the tree roots and orange mud, my head really began to ...
