    ... is where the fun started and stopped... Our supposed 2 hours back to Shanghai turned into over 4 hours, most of which was crawling through traffic. Having spent over 8 hours travelling the day before and an hour already that day, we all agreed the 13 hours of travel was nowhere near made up for by the sites - plus we had to leave the glorious Pudi Boutique Hotel!! It was weird to have paid good money for 2 days I wouldn't re-experience for free. ...

    ... new friends setting up their tables and food out on the pavement, so we moved outside and had a fabulous evening watching the world go by and exploring the stalls. The stall right in front of the restaurant was selling scorpions, spiders, centipedes and snakes - my first sight of exotic food in China!

    ... I keep trying on the Toms while I tried to explain in Chinese that my feet are too big. It was a success stop because I also picked up Pitch Perfect 2 for 10 kuai and a season of "The Borgias" to watch. Then I ordered a pizza using Sherpas.     ... spoke English. As you do in these situations, the few Westerners set up a small communication network and shared any snippets of information we were able to glean from various sources. Apparently the Chinese also had no idea what was happening so we just stayed alert to ensure we didn't miss the gate. Luckily there was a break in the weather and we made it on to the plane. Ultimately the wait wasn't that bad but of course it was very boring.
