With a bit of persistence a few gulls and Great Crested Grebes were located and a few more birders turned up but after a brief interlude of interest when one thought he'd seen a Slavonian Grebe (he hadn't) they didn't turn up much either. However they did tell us that they'd been watching a Firecrest at Conway RSPB reserve before heading this way and in return we told them where to look for the Black-throated Diver on Anglesey.

8 months of reciting this in my head, I finally have to act. I impart my well executed blurb to the check-in man and he informs me that First, Club and Business Class are all fully booked. Nooooo! After confirming that it's my birthday through my passport he offers the compensatory package of four seats to myself- its not a flat bed, but its something. Very happy- I accept.

The guy even wishes me my first Happy Birthday. ...

... is really only notable because it is circular and I particularly liked the gleaming pipes that decorated the roof. The interior has presumably been completely transformed and although I wasn't that interested in browsing in the shops I was quite happy to ride the escalators to the ground level to start a walk down the Gran Via del Corts Catalans, where JD had a shopping order to fill for her sister and brother-in-law.
