4th Abbass El Akkad, St - Dahar - Hurghada - Egypt Luxor, Nile River Valley, Egypt
... The lady told Mohamed that I would have to get a passport sized photo and fill out some forms and then come back. We went to a place around the corner and they took my photo and then while it processed Mohamed and I went to a coffee shop and had a drink while I filled out the forms. The place we went to was pretty funky with pool tables and a wide screen tv and lots of guys playing backgammon. Again Mohamed wouldn't let me pay for my drink and ...

Luxor, Nile River Valley, Egypt kemery... I was originally upset that I would potentially be missing. For the fact that it was only about $8 US for entry into both, plus about $10 more for transit, I was really pleased. Edfu temple has a similar layout, with some pretty interesting hieroglyphics and color remaining. For those going on this trip, try and see if your guide will bend and take you to these two temples. While not the biggest or the best, they are worth a look.

From Edfu we ...
Luxor, Nile River Valley, Egypt jeremystravels... to take our pictures. We had been traveling in the Middle East long enough to know not to trust big policemen with AK-47s with our cameras, as they would demand a large "baksheesh" in return.

After we had enough of the blistering sun, we stopped at the Kushary stand (Middle Eastern street food consisting of noodles, rice, chickpeas, lentils, fried onions, tomato sauce, hot sauce, and sometimes vinegar for about $0.40) where Tom ate his first street food. Luxor, Egypt kickthrough... he tried to make off with only giving me 30 back. This time, unlike in Jordan, I put my foot down. We agreed on 60 and I only paid 60...

It was pretty hot and we were pretty tired...probably one of the best naps of the trip, though I admit to being disappointed we didn't see much in Cairo, but we did today (June 6th), so it was ok. Our hotel was in a nice part of Giza I think and we did go out for dinner.

Cairo is massive and the ride from the airport ...
Luxor, Egypt jimmyandkristen... so we could have kids and I walked around it 5 times so we would have money for bringing up the kids.....well I thought it may sense. After Karnak it was back to the hotel for our routine afternoon nap as the weather is too hot to do anything. After that we met Ghandi downstairs, walked around the outside of Luxor Temple (you can see 70% of it with out even going in....save some dosh) and then it off to the souk (markets) where we had dinner. After dinner we decided ...
Luxor, Nile River Valley, Egypt dkjohansen... attempts at destruction by the many empires which have passed through here, etc. The one feeling you are left with, at the end of the day, is humility, and evidence of the ingenuity of man. The people who envisaged these structures were driven by intense faith in the gods and in their leaders. The rulers desire to build them were driven by other motivations as well-- the desire to be remembered, to be well-regarded and respected (perhaps feared), the desire for eternal ...
Luxor, Nile River Valley, Egypt liliens... trees in and to see a pen which housed 2 small crocodiles! Just as we were about to set off back Sasha realised she had left her camera at the table where we had been enjoying some free banana's. After an extensive search we couldn't find it so it was a bit of a subdued cruise back to town. Once ashore we walked to a restaurant that our cruise companions had recommended where we enjoyed some Egyptian bread and dips for dinner. 11th April - Luxor This ...
Luxor, Nile River Valley, Egypt chris.cesca... there was dancing and singing. A great time was had by all. I crawled off to bed and left the rest to it. The singing and talking went on till late. Our guide Mohamid was the life and soul of the party although he does not drink, mind you the rest put plenty away. Sleeping on the boat was so restful and I watched the sun rise the next morning after sleeping under the stars. We left the boat the next ...
Luxor, Nile River Valley, Egypt frankieg... for concerts off to the side of the temple – very pretty with a view of the water.

Our last night on the ship they made a cake for us and had us come up and dance with them while the staff all sang a song of congratulations. Then we had to cut the cake and eat from the same piece without touching the fork – it was funny and sweet. We really enjoyed the cruise. It was a great way to see so many of the sights while still feeling like you had a place to call "home".
