Today Qiqi went to visit a beach resort, actually a future beach resort since this place is not finished yet. Most of the condos have already been sold out, even though the place is not finished yet.
It was only about 80km from downtown shenzhen but it took about 3 hrs to get there by bus! The road system is not yet built up in this area, so travel take a much longer time than we are used to in the US.
Our short day trip to LongGang turned out to be an all day trip.
First the GPS system did not work very well. As Amy tries to drive in the China traffic, Eric tries to understand and give clearer directions with the Chinese GPS. We did bring our Garmin GPS system, but the Garmin maps are all wrong, so we had to rent a local Chinese GPS system.
it took us about 1 hrs to go to LongGang, which is only about 50km from where we are staying in Shenzhen, this is ...
... I was in need of a change of clothes. When I arrived the police already had a sign out on the road, I thought they’d been joking about the police. I got changed in the toilet, which was like a sauna, and came out soaking wet, so much for the change of clothes. Most of the day has now faded into a blur from that point on. There were speeches and mingling with parents, introducing myself to god knows who. I couldn’t even remember which ones were ...
Fanling, Hong Kong prbrown... almost swim through the air. The park is really nice and the cycleway to Tai Me Tuk goes along the waters edge. I visited an Insect information house, but didn’t see any insects looking for information, and climbed a lookout tower. I’d been walking for over a couple of hours and the heat and humidity was doing me in so I laid down in the shade of a tree. I didn’t intend to fall asleep but woke up feeling bloody awful. Walking back to Tai Po Central ...
Fanling, Hong Kong prbrown... chicken legs, wings, potatoes, a whole fish and shrimp and did them all on the grill. It was a charcoal grill and the meal took about 3 hours to prepare, but it was some of the best barbeque I've ever had. * On Friday August 13th we woke up to a pretty large rain storm. This is pretty common here and we didn't think anything of it. We never know what the weather is going to be like ...
Dongguan, Guangdong, China tomlaceySo the flight over wasn't too bad. Out of 20 films they were showing, my dad was in 2 of them.... which was pretty amusing. Unfortunately i realy couldn't sleep... You know when you know that you have slept a lil bit but really don't have a clue how much? All i know is that i know it was more like a case of how ...
Hong Kong, China louisengAs many of you readers know, I spent last week in Hong Kong. I visited the amazing Chinese city to see my dad who was there on business. It was great to see my dad, who I haven't seen in about three months. I also can't complain about the kind of luxuries accompanied the trip. My friend Jenny joined me on my travels to HK. We left Chiang Mai Tuesday night, on an overnight train to Bangkok. The last time I was on long distance train was during the ill-fated trip from Prague to ...
Hong Kong, China emogo... you feel obliged to do. Your body clock becomes a mess. Days have disappeared before you know they came and you can't add up any positive contribution to your life. This must be what it's like to be on Big Brother. It's like being dropped into a swimming pool of liquid chocolate which slowly thickens with time, restricting your mind and body ...
Dongguan, China robjstaplesAfter a crazy and very hectic two weeks in China, we made our way to Hong Kong. Must mention that got from Shanghai to the airport on a Maglev train. It took 7 minutes to travel 40km and went at a top speed of 430 km per hour - very cool but very very fast! Hong Kong is great - a bit crazy and very expensive - London prices but some great shopping and bars! Went to the top of the Peak tram ...
Hong Kong, China gemmakonrad... resignation, but above all else there is a grim determination to work, to make money, to do better and to succeed. Some of this derives from abject poverty and of course, not everyone is on an upward curve but you constantly see people repairing, innovating, making things with their hands from scrap, selling small amounts of home made or hand-crafted produce, doing vicious manual labour and then trying something different or ...
