... I also asked our tour guide about a story I had heard that the hands of the artists who built the Taj Mahal had their hands cut off but he said this was a rumor and not true. Although, it might have been a metaphor since the artists were told they could not build ever again but were paid a hefty sum for this. So in a way the king metaphorically cut their hands though he paid them well for it. I am not sure what is true but I like the metaphoric explanation ...
"If you ever go to Agra make sure you are in and out within a day… The place is a cess pit." That was the advice we were given but no trip to India could ever be complete without a visit to the Taj Mahal.
We were due to arrive at 0540hrs, see the sights and be back on a train by 2015hrs. Unfortunately our train in was seriously held up and we didn't arrive till 1100hrs. Then again, it was quite lucky as we had plenty of time to do everything ...
