Possibly the worst road in the world?

30th July Had lazy day - went to the MBK centre to look around - bought several DVD's and Michael decided to splash out on something he's always wanted. A North Face gore tex summit series jacket. And it's actually from the North Face shop so totally authentic! He's very chuffed and continued to wear it around our room for most of the night pretending to snowboard! Whilst watching a movie laid out on the couch this evening, I thought i felt the ground shake but thought nothing of it. A few ho...

... hardly tell Angkor Wat from Angkor Beer – of course I exaggerate but just a tad. However I am glad I didn’t have a guide as that would have been information overload. My transport for the three days was by tuk tuk, basically a motor bike with a trailer but much better fun than bus or taxi. My driver was called Pheach and he was, particularly when on the first day due temple overdose I forgot his instructions about where to meet.

I have to say that my first ...

Then I just walked around and excited the kids by taking their picture, showing it to them and watching their excitement. I had a soft drink at the shop and then clambered back onto our boat for the slow motor back to our dock and then the ride back to the hotel.

... headed. On arrival I was offered either a 1 day ticket for $20, or a 3 day for $50. So, as it work out cheaper to get a 1 day for each of my days I opted for the former. It was then a 10 minute ride to Angkor Wat, which is the main temple in the Angkor Wat complex (and is the symbol of Cambodia). When I got into the Temple area itself it was heaving with people, turns out sunrise is very popular, and I found out why, well worth the ...

... one very sick, but it probably won't kill. The local children are another matter. They are weakened by malnutrition and disease, so the death rate for them is very much higher. So a disruption in the reproductive cycle of the mosquito is good news. The flip side - if the flood water stands for more than a couple of days there will be a huge number of mosquitos. So in the longer run this is not so good.

One of ...

He really enjoys having a caddy too.
I spent the morning having a lovely breakfast at a local bakery / cafe called "The Blue Pumpkin". I then wandered around the local area. There are a lot of amputees and people with deformities who try and sell their wares (mainly books) on the street. I had about 3 books I had already read and didn't want to carry ...

... of Cambodian culture into a concrete picture of why the country is so poverty stricken. In 1975, the Khmer Rouge invaded Phnom Phen, the capital of Cambodia, where the author of the book, Loung Ung, lived with her middle-class family (they owned two cars, jewellery, and attended school). She and her family were forced to flee the city, taking very little with them. After their car ran out of gas, they walked for several days with very little to eat. Eventually ...
