In Ushuaia...Finally!

... he tells us to go talk to the ticket sales lady because she can help us further. Guess what? She canīt! Oh, she can give us attitude and tell us we are screwed, but she sure couldnīt help us! Bottom line is they canceled the flight a month ago and said they tried to call us, but the call wouldnīt go through. So I never found about it. So she told us it was our fault because the number I gave didnīt work and so they are off the hook! We were arguing with her but she hardly understood ...

Pucon to Ushuaia

... 5km long, 2 km wide and 60 metres tall. It was rather rainy and cold, however we got nice and close to the glacier for a brilliant view. The colours were amazing, parts of the ice were bright blue. We took a long bus ride to Ushuaia (The most Southernpoint in the World), on the way we went on a car ferry with the bus. There was a huge swell, the boat was rolling from side to side, and the bus crunched on the ground trying to get on the boat. Once on we stayed in ...

From Bonito to Ushuaia

My last update was half way through Bonito. Nicole and I loved the air-conditioning, bar fridge, ensuite and swimming pool so much that we decided to stay in our hostel for 2 more nights and delay our reunion from the group a little longer. During that time we attempted Abismo. This is pretty much a hole in the ground which opens up into this huge canyon filled with water which you can either snorkel or scuba dive in. Before you go on this trip there is 'training' the night ...

Return to civilization

... some of the chairs had bubbles that one could pull down, clearly sign of high winds, or lots of heavy snows, we surmised.

We continued on, over Garibaldi Pass, to where we had vistas of the lakes below. They are long and narrow, stretched perpendicular to each other, shimmering silver amongst the tall brown peaks around. Descending into the valley, we saw a small town with a lumber mill and an old house, made with timber, German style. The area around the lakes was a ...

Ushuiah: El Fin del Mundo!!!

... all 60 of us, and we did everything from rowing to tons of hiking up mountains to going off roading in Land Rovers! It was sooo much fun and such an adventure. And the nature there was absolutely incredible... I think itīs the most beautiful place Iīve ever been to... you have the ocean (where the Pacific and Atlantic ...

... bridge or the fly bridge watching as Ushuaia slowly disappeared in to the distance. It was a beautiful evening with the sun setting slowly. We were headed out into the Beagle Channel under the instructions of the local Argentinean pilot and heading towards the dreaded Drake Passage. It was a rough night sleep that started off OK as we were still in the Beagle Channel, protected on all side by mountain ranges, once we hit the Drake ...

Bus to el fin del mundo The end of the world

... a hangover from hell. Went to breakfast sat with someone from the bar the night before. Then met Marsha (Holland) with whom I spent the whole day talking. We shared a mate. I went for a siesta. Then we walked to get money passport stamps and food to make for dinner. Before cooking dinner we went out to walk town and take pictures of the mountains during sunset. The sun and clouds didn't cooperate like I had wanted. It was very windy and ...

Last thoughts on Ushuaia

... we boarded a bus for Punta Arenas, Chile. Quite happy to be out of Ushuaia, not sure if we are happy to have been here in the first place. It is the southern most city in the world, and a couple days would have been cool, but we were kinda stuck for 5 days. Time will tell if it was worth it. Call/write us in 10 years to ask about our travels. If Ushuaia ever comes up, it was worth it. If not, then we should have gone straight to slightly northern Patagonia in Chile.

Southern tip of Argentina, Tierra del Fuego

... with lots of container units but still retains a lot of charm. Lots of signs to Antartica too and ads for boat trips. We can see the Beagle Channel from the breakfast room in our hostel, and beyond is the Dientes range of mountains - with snow-capped peaks - and they do look like a row of teeth too! Lots of love Esther & Andy xxx
