... back and had lunch in town and will probably relax a bit before going back down to the main street for dinner later. One thing we realized the last couple of days is that we were woefully underprepared for the weather down here. It is cold and we did not bring enough to combat it! Of course, most of the places we were going were warmer, but still. I think before we leave tomorrow we are going to go buy gloves and hats. We still have some cold weather ...
Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina derekjjensen...
La ...
... other reasons. The pilot having to sight the runways and then resight until he seem cool with it, run all the way north again for the impending approach then lowering altitude to below the hieght of the chanelling moutains feeling as if at anytime a twist would recreate a Erebus like disaster. With my hands and bum sweating nervously, having my feet on the ground meant both body parts relaxed and moisture dried up. A lot of information yeah.
Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina thepolishmaori... seals: many were lying around disguised as rocks, but our arrival provoked several of these aggressive teenagers, whom we saw lifting their heads, barking and baring their teeth, and in some instances 'running' to confront us. We had been warned that they will attack and not only does their bite hurt, but they transmit particularly unpleasant bacteria, incompatible with humans... hmmm, best ...
Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina fishtails04... waren naar schatting 300-400 jaar oud. Heel gek idee. HUH! Dit is Nederlands. What de f*ck. Bijna 14.000 km van huis af en Nederlandse muziek op de radio. Kicke! Zelf bracht ik een bezoek ...
Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina heinlisenkaNext day I took the 3PM ferry over to Tierra del Fuego, and spent the night at the town on the other side, I forget the name. Met a German couple and we had dinner, it was nice. The following day my goal was the final southern destination, Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world. It rained all day, and as I rode further south the wind kicked up, and it go colder. Basically it was a miserable ride, but there was a town ...
Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina bocalee... the ship is warm inside but cold outside temps, We met lots of nice other passengers, couple from Iowa, couple from Italy, guy from Pittsburgh, and lady from austrailia and another from Russia are at our table tonight. WHEN we Anacrtica we are going to get a pic with our Cardinal t shirt and the guy between us wearing pit stealers t- shirt. I have excuse for my spelling , try typing with a 20 degees sway.
Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina rogersusieq... and see the sign for Ushuaia. I let out a holler and we stop for pictures. I am emotional as we head into the most Southern City in the world. We find a hostel and book ourselves in... and then head to Bahia Lapatia park. The absolute most Southern point in the world anyone can drive too by road. Our goal. We stop at the park entrance sign and as the tour buses pull in we become instant stars. People asking us question after question, wanting to take our picture ...
Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina chemoejito... to send your bike to in Argentina - another possibility would have been to have chucked them in boat and collect them here, ready to travel up, up, up through the more interesting parts of the continent. But would we appreciate this part of the world as much as if we magically beamed ourselves down and jumped on our North pointing machinery? There is something about having spent the last 6 days covering over 20 degrees of the earth's latitude than allows us to appreciate ...
Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina barneyandpier... staff said he spoke Spanish very well. "Ohh...*blush*....geez.... gracias!" was his response. Most restaurants in town feature a classic Argentinean grill where whole lambs are spit roasted over wood fires for all you can eat menus...we couldn't resist. With unique herbs and grasses found in Patagonia for the sheep to eat many people say the taste is unique to the area, to us it was simply delicious! Our dinner actually didn't start until 11:30pm ...
