Historical Traveler Reviews Los Altos De Eros Tamarindo

    Total Renewal

    from

Looking for an getaway escape and needing to be renewed I found the perfect place in Los Altos De Eros. It was incredible from the moment I arrived in the hidden hilltops, greated by the ultimate hosts, and with a much appreciated snack before dinner. The scrumptious snack was only the beginning of the most incredible meals both at the Inn & in Tamarindo. The service was inpeccable. You were to want for nothing. There was wine (which I ordered once I got home to help maintain the sensory of my Costa Rican experience), beer, pineapple tea, & always water there and available.

My first full day started off with the full-day spa experience that is fondly remembered and is now a forever yearning to get back to again. You are treated so well, it is incredibly relaxing, and then the lunch that is brought down is shared with the others (5 max occupancy). As you receive your massage you are moved without even realizing it, everything flows and is so quiet and peaceful that it ends with total relaxation to a sleep which you are left to enjoy briefly before your next treatment begins.

Each morning was started with the opportunity to take a challenging trek down and up our hill for 3.5 miles, followed by a dip in the pool and shower in your outdoor shower (incredible experience) coming out to a breakfast feast with fresh mango, papaya, pineapple, yogurt, carrot-orange juice, gallo pinto (must have Lisano with), fried plantains, eggs, cereal if you wanted, and the most incredible bread.

Your days were spent either going on-site (why leave? It is so incredible there and the views......) or they are happy to take you to the beach, into town, or whereever you would like to go. There is so much to see and do, but then you just want to relax and enjoy being outside your room at the pool reading a book, taking a dip, and you do not ever want to miss a sunset. Each night is very different, all spectacular!!!

This place is a must see!!!! Calvin and Jacqueline are incredible hosts along with all of their staff and they have brought their extrodinary vision to reality, though it is far from reality for us, it becomes a fantasy place, and is becomes your yearning and dreams just waiting to get back there! Especially with all of my chaos preparing my house to sell and building a new house, I hope to return again soon to renew myself back to whole again. Don't put off visiting, you will not regret your trip and will feel that you have truly gone to Heaven!

    Fabulous Resort Spa!

    from

Los Altos de Eros is stunning. From the moment you are greeted by the incredible staff upon arrival to the tearful goodbye at the end of your stay, you are treated like royalty.

Breakfast and lunch are culinary masterpieces, everything is fresh and wonderfully prepared. Incredible Costa Rican coffee is served freshly brewed in the morning and if you want more later, you just ask and your wish is granted.

Jacqueline arranged for us all of the day trips that we were interested in and we had a blast on the catamaran tour and the canopy tour!

The full day in the spa was heaven for all of us...we enjoyed it so much that we went back for more the following day.

The staff is the best! They are friendly and smile all the time. These are the most wonderful people, I wanted to bring them all home with me.

The rooms are incredible, clean and beautifully decorated. Fresh linens and towels everyday and the room and bathrooms are cleaned every day.

You could not design a better view. Los Altos de Eros sits atop a mountain. 360 degrees of view...mountains, forest and ocean. The wildlife is abundant and the howler monkeys come right up close to entertain you. I have never before seen so many different types of birds, including hummingbirds.

The pool alone is worth the trip! What a wonderful place.

Calvin and Jacqueline have created a little paradise in Tamarindo. If you want a vacation that has it all, then this is the place to go. It is very small and private and oh so quiet and peaceful.

I hope to return time and again for the most relaxing of all vacations...I enjoy being treated like royalty.

    Heaven on Earth

    from

After treating us like a King and a Queen, giving us top of the line food and service, giving us the most relaxing and enjoyable trip we have ever had, being the host with the most - putting heaven on earth for us to enjoy, we felt as though writing a review is such a small contribution. When you leave this beautiful spa you will feel like you are leaving behind a small part of yourself. We felt warmly welcomed from the second we were greeted by one of the staff at the airport. When you visit other spas and hotel resorts you can recieve good service but they will all fail in comparison to what you will receive at Los Altos de Eros. We felt as though we were part of a big family. The open air and the breathtaking views will leave you feeling as though there is no where else on earth to be. Television, radio, newspapers were all forgotten as we let ourselves become part of the atmosphere of this beautiful spa. Your hosts Calvin and Jaquelin will leave no doubt in your mind that you are in the best vacation destination that this world has to offer. This is the closest to Heaven you will come without actually going :) We will return - Greg & Donna Batte'

    Best Vacation we ever had

    from

This little gem made us feel like royalty. If you ever want to live like a millionare, go to this resort. From the hotel to the food to the staff to the spa, this resort is truly a five star resort. The hosts are amazing, and we plan on returning to this incredible find many many times.

    The Gem in the Jungle

    from

I feel that it's most appropriate to post our vacation experience at Los Altos de Eros on Valentines Day. We couldn't have imagined a more romantic, relaxing, customer satisfaction oriented resort than Los Altos de Eros. The minute we landed in Liberia International Airport I knew this vacation was soon to become our most memorable ever. We were met by Calvin and one of his staff. I felt I had known Calvin for years. The chemistry that developed along that 45 minute ride to the resort would set a solid foundation for a lasting relationship.

When we arrived at the Heights of Love, we were greeted by several smiling faces one of which was Jacqueline's. She welcomed us with a warm hug and the honor of being their first official guests. Our trip week was in January of '05. The spa was still under construction and the staff was eagerly training and even more eager to please their first real guests. Well....there was never a moment during our stay that we weren't pampered. The staff was always never there ~ if you know what I mean. They knew when to show up and when to disappear(how do they do that?).

When you enter through the grand front entrance you'll be taken back by the view of the horizon pool reflecting the deep blue sky with the Pacific ocean as our backdrop. I said to my wife "how much better can it get"! Much to my surprise it got better and better with each new experience. We were given a guided tour of the entire facility with the last stop being our room. The turtle room. Christine and I couldn't wait to experience the outdoor shower in our private bathroom. We were serenaded by Costa Rica's most beautiful song birds by day and illuminated by a star filled sky at night. Our bed was very comfortable and the linen changed daily. Fresh flowers and a warm tropical breeze to refresh your soul are all part of the experience.

We were offered an abundance of fresh fruit and a local seafood dish called ceviche.

The fruit, which was available all day was ripe, sweet and refreshing. The ceviche was outstanding. I'd had previous experience with ceveche but this was far superior probably due to the freshness of the seafood which is caught and delivered to the resort daily...for the record..ALL the meals were superior both in taste and presentation. Breakfast was filled with fresh pastries, local cheese and coffee, fresh squeezed juices and eggs. A great start to the day.

We ventured to Playa Avellana. The beach where Lola the pig resides as well as a troop of Howler monkeys. It was a short ride from the resort. Lunch and libations at Cafe Avellana is a must. We made reservations to watch the turtles nest at Playa Grande. A must do although not a guarantee. We accompanied Calvin and Jacqueline several nights to dinner in Tamarindo and once in Playa Flamingo. The restaurants were all very good especially one in Tamarindo that was owned by a beautiful Argentinian women. While we waited to be seated, a boy roughly 10 years of age came running down the street with a very large package in his arms. It was a clear plastic bag about a third his size. He ran past us straight to the owner. She greeted him with a smile. They exchanged words and then she kissed his cheek and off he ran disappearing into the crowded street. She then came to seat us and I asked her what was the boy carrying? "Another special for the menu" she replied...."Fresh tuna caught just an hour ago". The boys father is a local fish monger who supplies wahoo, tuna and snapper just to name a few. Of the 8 in our party, 5 had an exquisitely prepared tuna steak seared to perfection. That evening started out with the most beautiful sunset Calvin and Jacqueline had ever witnessed. I was lucky enough to have video taped it's entire hour and fifty minute performance which has been viewed time and time again. There are so many things I could tell you that made our trip so memorable. Cocktails at sunset in Zullymars - a must do! Bring your camera. A snorkel excursion with Jeff Herrman on his Blue Dolphin...what a great way to spend a day. We highly recommend Jeff and his crew. The sunset massage for two with champagne, fruit and chocolate. Yum! The "Spa Girls" receive top billing. They are as talented as they are beautiful. From pink flamingos to canaries, From three feet long iguanas to white faced coati, from pigs to possum Costa Rica is not lacking in wildlife in or out of the jungle.

Like previous reviewers, I too write this review with apprehension although it seems for now only the romantically adventurous will seek out such a true gem and make it there own. I wish our dear friends, Calvin and Jacqueline all the success one can wish upon another. We anxiously await our return to Los Altos de Eros ~

The Most Amazing Place in Costa Rica!! 100% Perfect!

    from

After Spending 6 nights at Los Altos De Eros in Costa Rica I felt the need to come back and post this messege. I have never been to a place that was so perfect in every way. From the moment you walk in you are greeted by the manager who takes care of you for the rest of your trip. The views are the nicest in Costa Rica and the service is as well. YOu are served an amazing breakfast every morning, as well as a gourmet lunch. The food is Awsome. The spa services cant be beat and the owners who actually live on the grounds couldnt be any nicer. If you are going to costa rica as a couple or with another couple YOU HAVE TO STAY AT LOS ALTOS DE EROS!!!!

    Days 37, 38 & 39 - The Beach town of Tamarindo

A travel blog entry by ai_firestone on Nov 06, 2013

We have had a great few days relaxing on the beach. We have also done some amazing tours including watching a pacific sea turtle lay eggs! While very American (it actually reminded us a tiny bit like Vegas without the lights and crowds at night) we have really enjoyed Tamarindo. On the first day Isaac had a surfing lesson (yes he did manage to stand up!), we somehow managed to spend $50 NZ on sushi and we went out to watch the ...

... fine! The lobby was nothing to rave about, either. Went to the Tapas bar downstairs & noticed how quiet it was. We plopped ourselves in some fancy teak lounge chairs & finally got waited on, we ordered two mojitos that were $14 each. Received the fancy concoctions & I got the giggles, was so afraid I would get us kicked out for making a sound! The feel was stuffy & I couldn't wait to get back ...

... sarcastically in your head. That was me. I started putting my wetsuit on even though I was still feeling ill and then I was like whoa hold on there buddy. My fins are FOUR sizes to big. Do you want me to take 4 hours? Haha. Just no, no, no all round. Thankfully I didn't have to do it, because it would have been ridiculous and I want to do good in it, not ****. Which is what would have happened if I was wearing the wrong fins. I probably would have ended up just giving ...

... from Costa Rica to Panama so I also lost an hour crossing the boarder.

I tried to sleep most the trip to Panama City in hope to make the trip go by faster. It took forever.I finally arrived back in Panama City late Thursday afternoon, after more 24 hours of travel. Thankfully Dan was able to pick me up from the bus station in Panama City.

I had just enough time to rest and regroup. The next day my friend Fiona would be in Panama for the next week! ...

Day 9-10: Scramcakes and Devil Rays

... in a ridiculous temperatures I created lime and honey 'scramcakes' so named because they are pancakes but look like scrambled eggs. I'm totally creating a new dish rather than saying it was a failure. But yeah non stick pans all the way! Day 10: More diving today, doing it all the time is pretty knackering. Your always doing something, loading the boat, swimming, picking up tanks (which are like 18KGs a go) and in the ridiculously hot sun which is also super draining. You can't ...
