... moved into parts of the town and attempt to steal from food vendors who carry bamboo poles and slingshots to fend them off. Kind of sad, really, and since people feed them their leftovers, there are empty cups and wrappers everywhere making it a rather nasty looking town. However, due to the Buddhist belief in not harming animals (and probably the tourist drawing factor) they are tolerated. I walked ...
Lop Buri, Thailand skookumchuck... like but actually tastes like cotton candy and then wrapped in a crepe. Unfortunately we didnt find any, but we went to a bar nearby and had some drinks instead. We all called it an early night thankfully since we knew the next day would be a long one.
The next morning we got up and hopped a train to Lopburi about 2 hours north of Ayuthaya. The train looked like it was from the 1950s, but had huge windows that were left open for a great view ...
... They are also quite "domesticated" and have no problem eating human food. Like cans of soda, Coke, not Pepsi. Sausage and candy were also popular items.
But before the festival on Sunday, I arrived Saturday night in Lopburi to be greeted, by, oh atleast 30 people from my program, which was awesome! I never get to see other foreigners besides the same 10 or so. It was a wonderful, Chang-y reunion.
... bed, dressor/closet, mirror, mini fridge, water heater for shower and flush toilet (not squat) and AC.... but no internet.
I will post pictures later, but when I shower the sink is a foot to my left and the toilet is a foot and a half to my right, so you can pretty much tackle 3 tasks at once.
I am right in the center of town close to all the markets, food, bus stop, and three seven 11's (they really like their 7 11\s and cell [phone ...
... Neil and I on the other hand were very wary (scared stiffless) walking past them and resorted to following in the path of the small local children to get past them.
We finished off our tour of Lopburi by taking a walk to the train station to book tickets for the following day. For 26p we managed to get our third class tickets to our next stop, Ayuthaya, the former ancient capital of Thailand.
... traditionally made of intricately folded banana leaves with candles and incense and offerings on it, floated down the river. Nowadays they're made outta bread or styrofoam. Just in Bangkok, imagine over 10 million styrofoam krathongs being floated down the river. Pollution.. Ours were made of bread. Before you put it in the water, you're supposed to pray and let everything bad wash away, like old grudges, resentments, feelings, and all. I tried but I don ...
Lopburi, Lop Buri, Thailand alainetaylor... upon arrival, Lopburi is pretty insignificant but we only had to walk a couple of hundred yards before we encountered our first Macaque who came shuttling past us pushing a Coke bottle. The end of the street then opens up to a huge array of the little fellas which is a sight for any monkey fan's eyes. There are monkeys on cars, monkeys under cars, monkeys in the back of trucks, monkeys humping, monkeys fighting, monkeys hanging and ...
Lopburi, Lop Buri, Thailand haz14... block there was a mass of monkeys on every floor, chatting, fighting, playing etc. They are so cheeky and it was well worth the visit....Ive never seen monkeys this close or this interesting before. Leaving Lopburi we caught the common train to Phisanolouk in 3rd class....this was an interesting experience as third class is actually the last class available and fo us it meant that we didnt get a seat.....so for most of the ...
Lop Buri, Thailand emma_et_anthony... s probably why.
School. Wow. I think about Garfield sometimes when I'm sitting in class and I can't help but laugh. Today is my third day of school, and it's crazy. I'm always just following and observing all of these giggly Thai schoolgirls. The school is the complete opposite of Garfield. Garfield is so.. nice. Nittayanukul (my school here) is old, dirty, grungey, worn-down, decaying, and really rag-tag. I think of all the nice equipment we have for ...
Our main reason for visiting Thailand was to work on a voluntary programme at an orphanage in the province of Sing Buri, in the countryside, two hours north of Bangkok.
The next day we met the programme organisers at our hotel and got a transfer minibus with several other people to our accomodation in Sing Buri. The accomodation was surprisingly nicer than expected: white walled bungalows all set in a low walled grounds by a river ...
