The elevator in our hotel is the only working one we've seen and other than one escalator in a metro station all of the rest of those were broken as well. There's also lots of homeless people. ... made it back to Barb in time to catch our delayed train.

The arrival in Amsterdam was further complicated by the delay as our train could not take us into Amsterdam central, instead it dropped us off outside of town and we had to transfer to a local train. It made for a little anxiety, but it all worked out in the end. We found "Frederick's Rent a Bike" a half hour before closing after wandering down cobblestone streets ...

We arrived at our boat, the Viking Var, unpacked, enjoyed a cocktail in the lounge, and headed for Amsterdam. Old cobbled streets, magnificent church towers, bicyclists everywhere.
