How have we never heard of this place?

    Surprise, surprise, another cloudy misty
day with intermittent rain! We left the hotel after breakfast and went to a
different airport which allowed us to see even more of the city on our way out.
The airport was very new, quite large and filled with duty free shops. Our
flight left on time at 10:30 and we arrived in Wuhan at 12:30 to more rainy
skies. The plane was quite new and we even got a hot lunch! We picked ...

In the morning we visited the campus of Wuhan University, which is a beautiful and picturesque spot. They have to charge admission during cherry blossom season, to keep the crowds ...

Yueyang is a relatively small (population of 3 million) port city located between Wuhan and Chongqing on the Yangtze. ...

Monday April 29, 2014 Shanghai to Wuhan and our cruise
Ok so we had a REALLY early wake-up call - 4:30 for a 5:15 departure from the hotel! We got a fairly decent box breakfast (boiled egg, croissant, yogurt, orange and water), which we scarfed down while trying to connect on their terrible wifi.
Got to the airport and got checked in. The Shanghai airport is enormous - the roof is shaped to suggest the wings of a seagull (because it is an ocean port) and ...

... a special cake was brought to our table which we shared with the people from our group. That was a nice touch.

As I am writing this we are presently in lock # 3 of the three gorges dam. The height difference between the river and the reservoir is approx 100 meters. There are 5 locks and each one lifts the ship approx ...
