Day 53
Not much to say today. I was pretty lazy for some reason and did not leave the hotel until 11am. Someone else had borrowed the hotel bicycle so I had to get the local bus out to Anemurium ('place of the winds') to see the ancient ruins built by the Byzantines. The city was founded in the 1st century AD but hit hard by an earthquake around 580.
Since it was 110 km / 3 hour ...

Alanya, Antalya, Turkey stephanberlin... and slippery paths, I think. Saw a European Robin by the way. From Silifke to Alanya Leaving early after breakfast we hit the road with the firm determination to reach Antalya shortly after lunch. The road decided otherwise. The Turkish know about the third dimension. We went left, right, up, down, sometimes in the opposite direction of a course steered just seconds before. In short: A motorcyclist's wet dream. Also we arrived at a place where they had just ...
Alanya, Turkish Mediterranean Coast, Turkey robertandtanja... it would be the perfect place to spend the next three days. As it is it is chilly and overcast most of the time. The way our tour is set up we don't stay with the same group the whole time. We have bus tickets from point to point. Someone picks us up at the bus station and takes us to our hotel then a van picks us up and takes us on a tour. Then they take us back to our hotel and in the morning a van takes us to the bus station and we start over. But here, in Fethiye, we ...
Fethiye, Turkey yoni... blue eyed people everywhere with as many pubs/restaurants/clubs you would ever need. You can also go on nightclub cruises here which leave the waterfront at 10pm for a 4 hour drinking session. As drinks were expensive we skipped this idea and were off the next day to a smaller and a little cheaper place called Kas (I thought it was pronounced Kaz but it is actually Cash).
Alanya, Antalya, Turkey kazanddamo... some of them have numerous connected arches intact, even after millennia. Eventually I wound up all the way up at the Oymapinar reservoir, and looking down from near the dam there, I had a pretty good view of at least part of the river valley. After hanging around the reervoir for a while, it was time to head back down the valley and eventually wind up in Side, which boasts a seriously large amount ...
Side, Turkey danbirchall... open by the river. Ants and I chose the under the stars option and it was another relaxing evening playing with the puppies(tree house owners 4 fluffy wee things) and a couple of quiets after a scramble up the gorge. Yesterday was a drive day with only a short stop for lunch and a shop in Kos. We in Olympos now some more ruins and a relaxing day at the beach. Gotta fly so more latter Cy and Ants
Olympos, Turkey ants... Obvıously not much left but pretty cool seeıng ıt was 2500BC. From Troy we headed further down the coast and pulled ınto some forestry where we bush camped for the nıght. Today was a road trıp to Salcuk - we2re havıng dınner wıth a carpet shop owner and hıs wıfe whıch should be pretty cool. We're stayıng ı ...
Salcuk, Turkey ants... I should be ticking things off some imaginary list that I compile which invariably involve hiking or scrambling (definetely an expenditure of effort is required) to see some off the beaten track sight or ruin. But Ill console myself by saying that this sort of a day is necessary to act as a buffer zone every now and again - and by going to visit Termessos - which is some ancient ruins of the beaten track tommorow! Ok so another rest day for TIPO. Cheers Wadirunner.
