Day 53

Not much to say today. I was pretty lazy for some reason and did not leave the hotel until 11am. Someone else had borrowed the hotel bicycle so I had to get the local bus out to Anemurium ('place of the winds') to see the ancient ruins built by the Byzantines. The city was founded in the 1st century AD but hit hard by an earthquake around 580.

... it would be the perfect place to spend the next three days. As it is it is chilly and overcast most of the time. The way our tour is set up we don't stay with the same group the whole time. We have bus tickets from point to point. Someone picks us up at the bus station and takes us to our hotel then a van picks us up and takes us on a tour. ... blue eyed people everywhere with as many pubs/restaurants/clubs you would ever need. You can also go on nightclub cruises here which leave the waterfront at 10pm for a 4 hour drinking session. As drinks were expensive we skipped this idea and were off the next day to a smaller and a little cheaper place called Kas (I thought it was pronounced Kaz but it is actually Cash).

Yesterday was a drive day with only a short stop for lunch and a shop in Kos. We in Olympos now some more ruins and a relaxing day at the beach. Gotta fly so more latter Cy and Ants

I should be ticking things off some imaginary list that I compile which invariably involve hiking or scrambling (definetely an expenditure of effort is required) to see some off the beaten track sight or ruin. But Ill console myself by saying that this sort of a day is necessary to act as a buffer zone every now and again - and by going to visit Termessos - which is some ancient ruins of the beaten track tommorow!
