London

The Malpensa Express was a success. We arrived at the airport with time to spare...which came in handy as we tried to navigate through to our gate. Apparently Britsh Airways is having a fight with the airplane caterers and our complete meal service was replaced by a Sandwich labeled simply "egg and mayonnaise". Now, if that doesn't whet your appetite, I don't know what will. Needless to say, we passed. After taking the Paddington Express train from the airport to Paddington Station Shelbi and...

Long time no blog

It's been ages since we last wrote in our old travel blog so there's plenty to get down. I guess one of the most significant changes in the last couple of months for me (Jamie) has been leaving my NINO finding buddies down in Putney to work for Yahoo! in the West End. I'm working in the finance department for one of the companies they acquired called Kelkoo or Yahoo! shopping in Oz. The position is contracts and traffic analyst, which when I applied for it I honestly thought it would have som...

First Day in London

Off we went for a ride on the "Eye". This was a great place to start because you are able to see the whole city. We needed an afternoon snack - Harrod's here we come. Ha rrod's is a gorgeous department store. We rode the Egyptian Elevator and heard the wonderful sounds of an opera singer on the balcony of Fine Furnishings. How luxerios. Demonstrations were heavy on Trafalgar Square. A visit to Convant Gardens ended our first day with huge laughs, The Chainsaw Juggler was in rare form.

The Tower

Our Royal Day.... We arrived at Buckingham Palace at 9:30 - changing of the gaurds, sooooooooo we wait to 10 - 3 gaurds come out and change 2 positions?????????? More and More people were gathering?????? So we decieded to check into this madness, keeping our front gate spot - The Royal changing of the gaurds was at 11. This was pretty cool. We took the scenic boat tour from Westminister up the Thames River (just like Henry VIII) to the London Tower. The crown jewels were spectacular. Bob was ...

Church Day in London

Yesterday, our last day on the ship, passed by rather quietly and low-key. There was last minute packing, a little bingo for Bernie and Steph (they lost), book reading, and the like. No crazy fashion shows, creepy tour guides, or crazy excitement.

We got off the ship after breakfast to take the train back to London. Our trip back into town was much less eventful then our trip out to the ship (if you recall, we were in the middle of the tube strike at the time!). Once in town, we checke...

Historical Traveler Reviews of London Marriott Hotel County Hall

What a hotel!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
After using Priceline to get air and hotel reservations I was shocked to discover that a hotel like County Hall Marriott would be available to me. It was by far the best hotel experience I have ever had. The staff could not be more attentive or helpful. The room was meticulous and good sized. The bath tub allowed for a nice deep soak after a day of walking around town. The only down side was the steep price of food in the restaurant.

Great hotel!

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed three nights at the County Hall this summer with our two sons. It is an excellent hotel, very well appointed and all the amenities. Our room was huge, with a sitting area and two big windows.

Shortbread cookies left for each of us each night. Great location for tourists like us with easy access to the Tube. This hotel is in the heart of things so is very convenient. Enjoyed tea in the library one afternoon (although it was pricey). The downsides were minor: The pool is only available to children until 7 pm, which we did not know until we checked in. And because the hotel is huge, our room was quite a hike from the elevators (about 230 steps!). This would be our first choice if we go back to London!

A great way to start my honeymoon

from belizelaw
Well, I hate to repeat all the accolades everyone else has written, so I'll just say I got it, in high season, for $125 at Priceline. Did anyone get it for lower?

A Wonderful Hotel!

This hotel was a wonderful experience I just got married this past June and my husband and I went to London on our honeymoon. We picked this hotel because it looked beautiful and indeed it was. The staff there was very friendly and helpful to any and all your needs. They serve a wonderful tea in there restaurant. This hotel is in a good location as well. Close to tube stations. Great hotel!

Loved the Marriott County Hall

from A TripAdvisor Member
The Marriott County Hall provided excellent accomodations for our family of three visiting London. The views toward the river are fantastic. The rooms are above average for what we have encountered in European hotels. The bathroom was more like what you would expect in an American hotel with large amounts of counter space. The room was also equipped with a small area which had a mirror and hair dryer so that our teen-age daughter could dry her hair without monopolizing the bathroom. The hotel is convenient to the Waterloo tube and train stations as well as the Westminster tube. The staff was very helpful and the restaurant was also nice. I would highly recommend this property.

Great Place To Stay

from A TripAdvisor Member
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The hotel has easy access to Central London by bus and tube. The staff at this hotel were some of the best we have met in London and were very accomodating without being intrusive. Hotel was also very child friendly. The restaurant was good and adequate for everyday dining. However for a more formal occasion you may wish to go a bit more upmarket. Our first room with 2 windows was light & airy. Our 2nd room for a 2 night stay only had 1 window and was a bit dark. Ask for a room with a lot of light if possible. Rating out of 10 8.

Excellent Hotel--great staff, great location, great view of Westminster Palace, clock tower (Big Ben), Thames, etc. Easy access to Tube (Westminster or Waterloo stations), Walking distance to many of London's sites, centrally located--we loved it. A great place to base your exploration of London and enjoy excellent rooms and service.

Great hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at the London Marriott Hotel County Hall and just loved it. The room was very nice and the hotel was just beautiful. The people there were all very friendly and helpful, especially the doorman with a great sense of humor. It was a short walk to Big Ben and Westminster Abbey. The London Eye is right outside the hotel. I would definitely stay there again. The location was great and we enjoyed our stay in London and at the hotel.

Loved it!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Fantastic hotel - one of the best I have ever stayed in. I loved everything about it, not least the beautiful views over the Thames. A real treat even if you already live in London. The breakfast was also the best I've ever had in Europe. The room rate is actually very reasonable for the luxury and comfort that you get. Can't wait to return!
