Hi everyone
On Friday, we visited the amazing Burj al Arab hotel for lunch. The only way you can get in is if you are a guest (it costs $1000's a night) or if you make a booking for lunch or dinner.
This hotel is the only 7-star hotel in the world, and unless we win lotto I don't think that I'll ever be able to stay a night ...
... two amazing hotels - the Burj al Arab (see next blog entry for our visit there) and the Jumeirah Beach Hotel.
Today, it's raining - which is pretty odd for the desert - and if it keeps raining our evening desert safari might get cancelled- which would be a real shame as my mum is really looking forward to it.
Tomorrow we're off to Switzerland, where it's -2 degrees and snowing in Zurich, which will be a big shock to us all.
luv Amy

The next best thing was that the hotel allowed me to check-in at 8am so that I did not need to loiter around with all the barang barang and could start enjoying the facilities. =)
I left my stuff in the room, went for a swim in the pool, got ...

Dubai, United Arab Emirates ruthmaranian... workers or x-pats as they are called. The writing is different, but then again it was in Thailand and Cambodia. Not hot here!! About 20 degrees (or 70 f) and not as warm as we thought it would be! Lots of trees at the airport and along the 4 lane highway, not much traffic but lots of building and cranes. and of course lots of white sand, or earth. The drive into Dubai is about 1 hour. There is a fence all along the highway, cement on the bottom, wrought iron on top with spikes ...
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates dancejill... many o's in the name, but there should be) is entirely enclosed, and I mean pitch black, for around 25 seconds. The other ride of note is the Jumeirah Sceirah, which is a triple-drop slide sort of like the Kamikaze at Sylvan Lake. Except you get up to 80 km/h on that third, evil drop. Just incredibly fast. And, yes, scary. For details, see The Amazing Race, season 5, episode 9. Oh, and did I mention that Wild Wadi is located literally at the front gate of the ...

Dubai, United Arab Emirates jandepq5So I picked up the Gulf News at the grocery store yesterday. Best thing since Bill Cosby started making those commercials advertising jello jigglers. I normally read the Khaleej Times due to its higher quality journalism, which is still fairly poor in my opinion. The Gulf News isn't horrible, I mean it is better than the Toledo Blade (which, for those of you who are not familiar with this newspaper, is "one of America's Greatest Newspapers"), but that is not ...
