Ave Larco 189, Miraflores Lima, Peru
After an 18 hour bus journey from Mancora we arrived in Lima around 1pm on Tuesday. Lima, which is the capital of Peru is the country's largest city with around 9 million inhabitants. Whilst in Lima we stayed in a part of the city called Miraflores, set above the Pacific Ocean this is the touristic centre of Lima & definitely the closest to a European area as we've seen so far. The bar manager in the Loki in Lima is Liam from Dublin, sound fella & looks exactly like Stephen Ireland. O...

... good and they were probably only 14. Those 3 national titles for brett didn't even help when he had steve and i as teamates, Its been about 3 years since i touched a ball. It was a great time though and hopefully we can get some more games going throughout the trip. We need to get in shape for them first, i don't think we are going to sweet nearly as much riding our bikes as we did playing tonight! Tomorrow, Norte.
Peace, Love, and futball

Lima, Peru countyman... for San Francisco around 7pm local time (6 pm CA time). We don't get in until after midnight on Thursday morning. Then it is back to normal life! I don't think I remember what that is!

So Amy and I thought we would sort of rank some of the things we have done in order of most to least favorite, and I think we will have two lists. The first are the tourist attractions or destination cities, and the second list are places we stayed (hotels, B& ...
Lima, Peru derekjjensen... day) about the bus system.

The bus system here (along with everything having to do with the roads) at first glance appears like an unregulated, chaotic mess, which is still more or less true, but I did learn 2 things. 1, there are a couple companies that standardize routes and set fairs (I had originally thought it was just oral lore passed down through generations of bus drivers). and 2, One of the reasons the pollution is awful and you sometimes feel like ...
Lima, Lima, Peru mpbezold... water dolphins. AMAZING. So so special. We also did some trekking through the jungle, lots of boat rides, parahna fishing (they actually taste great, just more bones than meat, and sharp bloody teeth!!!! Saw monkeys, sloths, fireflies, caimens, squirells, a million bird varietys, so much fish (the amazon is teeming with fish, I had one jump in my lap on the boat!!!) and a million bugs. It was also really hot - 35 to 40 degrees, and so muggy. We would have ...
Lima, Peru christinekiwi... Street we had eaten at the other day. That time we had eaten a subpar Mexican meal but tonight we had a great Italian pasta with garlic bread. Its very like Lygon street with restaurants close together and people trying to pull you in. Luckily the doctor from the Lima hospital had given me a prescription for stronger pain killers (I'm sorry but caffeine just wont cut the mustard....or the pain) so I felt much better flying from Lima the next morning.
Lima, Peru shanemilli... locals (we forgot to weigh at least a trolley's worth of fruit and veg) we make it out on to the road to hail a taxi. it is rush hour and noone wants to pick up 3 gringos (albeit quite good looking ones) and take them to a truck park on the oth** side of the tracks, wh**e we had been incidently warned not to go.

finally some poor suck** took pity on us and cross the tracks we did. Offloaded the stuff in to jack in this real scary place, it ...
Lima, Peru ramblingroisin... at only 9 soles we couldn't complain, and there was plenty of rice and mashed potatoes to fill us up.

We found the electricity museum, and took the ride on the old streetcar with three very happy families that appeared to be locals (Practically all the tourists we've encountered are from somewhere in South America - the only gringos we've seen are young backpackers in starbucks-burger king-mcdonalds type settings) The streetcar traveled about four blocks ...
Lima, Peru gandnclub... looking for. I walked down to the plaza for dinner. It was busy as. This morning I decided to walk to Park de la Cultura. My map says it is about 4km but it is not to scale cos it only took an hour. The park is an island between two streets and has heaps of amazing old statues but it is all fenced off for some reason. It is just outside the main court house and I sat on the steps for a rest and the security told me to move on. It was only 8am and the place was in full ...
Lima, Peru dzasta... not be required - it's a battle of acting skills. Traffic cop treads the boards first, reaching for and thumbing through the pages of his notebook. Inside he finds Violation 81B, a picture of a traffic policeman, and a box next to it with "340" stamped in it. Nodding assertively he shows us both the page, convinced that this performance is enough to earn him a traffic Oscar and 340 Soles (about $100) in patron endorsements. Pierpaolo's turn to respond as he is the only one of us ...
