John started the day with a sketch at last - very little chance up till now. After lovely breakfast outside in the sun, we spent time with the Carles looking at the vegie garden, adjoining river and being shown lots of antiquity - the old nearby inn, old wood oven, stables and sheds with loads of old goodies. We learned lots about the fascinating history of the property and district. They were the best of hosts and wonderful company - a jolly good ...

Leaving our hotel on the fringe of town, we made our way [somewhat circuitously!] to the very popular very old town of St Guilhem le Desert. This a gem of a place, set in a steep sided narrow valley. Towering above the lovely stone houses is a soaring, craggy pinnacle of rock topped with ruins of some ancient fortification. Wonderful flowery quiet and peaceful campsite by a lake. It had a great playground and pool with jacuzzi, and I think we were all very happy with the campsite. Small villages around. In the Pyrenees so lots of mountains. Very scenic, but tedious to drive through towing a caravan! Some mountain roads were so ...

Leaving this morning to go see Cordes sur Ciel and Albi, two French towns that have charms and history and lovely buildings and such. Luckily, the time was not changed so an 8 a.m. leaving time and all were present. We're traveling to Cordes sur Ciel first which is on a hill top up steep roads but there is a small train that carries people up to the "base" of the town. Cordes has an inversion layer when during the right weather and ...

    I want to walk

A travel blog entry by dutchnomad on May 06, 2015

I take my time in the morning and have breakfast with Ian. During breakfast, where looking on my map for the best route to take. Everybody wants to send me to the highway! I know it's fast but that's not the point. I want to enjoy it. Ian offers to cycle with me to a good hitchhike point. Well, I think that's a good idea although not really necessary. I'll find my way. Still. I accept his offer. When we get back ...
