We have just got home after 8 hours walking around the sights of Albi. It has the world's largest brick cathedral, St Cecile Cathedral, and from the outside it is almost ugly. As Garth said, it is like a gigantic pile of red bricks! But inside is a different story. It has a 'choir' with choir screens covered in statues of saints and disciples, and just about every bit of wall and the ceilings are covered in paintings. Near the altar is a huge ...

... man – barely 5 feet- who died in his late 30’s.

We try another local restaurant for dinner. Again 3 courses. I try the Pot au Feu de Mer, expecting a fish stew of some sort but end up with 9 different small pieces of fish, scallops, and shrimp. We figure out what is wrong with the phone, call ahead and start off again. Our hosts ...

Set off to Puycelsi in search of Sunday lunch. Beautiful medieval fortified village on top of a hill with wonderful views. Only restaurant open is fully booked so we just have a potter around before heading off. Next stop Lisle-sur-Tarn, another bastide town, medieval and fortified. 17th Century arcades all round the market square where we find a very late ...

... to Ambialet, a lovely village in a bend in the River Tarn. The bend is so sharp it nearly forms an ox bow lake! If not for a 35 meter strip of rock the village would be on an island. A Romanesque Priory sits on the hill above the village, wonderful views. Lovely walks in the woods by the Tarn. First day that we have noticed autumn in the ...
