... upper chamber, reached by a circular sloping ramp, had a very tall ceiling held up by an elaborate and quite marvelous tri level timber framing. Stan adores timber framing like I adore fan vaulting and was pretty much speechless!

After the tower we went back to the park and the tourist office and took the little tourist train for a 59 minute ride through the town and then around all the ramparts. It was just too hot and we didn’t have enough time to ...

Hope you all had a nice 4th of July. We spent ours driving about 3.5 hours from Langres to Rolampont. Then I spent an hour or so walking around up and down the canal looking for somewhere where the wifi hotspot would work - with no luck! La Route des grands Crus - A bushwalk (mudwalk) to a 'magnificent' natural spring and waterfall (that's what it said in the guide book). We did enjoy the fresh air and exercise.

Wine tasting along the famous Burgundy Wine Route through charming stone walled villages and colourful countryside. We drove along the route and got some pics of the vines but the ...

Day 21 - Mormant to Langres - 17 miles

Another lovely day's walk in the sun. Not too long so arrived in good time. Last nights hostess had phoned ahead to the Prespytere who had a pilgrim's suite ready for me for 5€. Pretty basic but who's complaining.

Some of the walk was through forest again. Haven't done so much clock-watching since the bad old work days. The instructions would say something like turn right on an indistinct path after 1000m. It is much easier to track the time taken rather than ...
