We were on the road before 08:30 again this morning - it was a little chilly but it wasn't long before we were climbing out of the Loue valley so that warmed us up. The ride towards Besancon was along a fairly ordinary French 'D' road with moderate levels of traffic until we were a few miles away when we left the beaten track for my devious quiet approach to the busy town. This route worked pretty well bringing us in alongside the river Doubs but there ...

Woken up by loud hooting, turned out to be the travelling bread van on a Sunday morning!

Not a lot in Vouecourt, a fountain house and a very old church.

Our Next stop was Langres, it is a fortified hill town. Walk part of the walls.

We went through the longest tunnel on our journey, 4.8km through the canal summit between the Marne and the Saone rivers.

Very rural journey for three days ...

The city walls were built and then improved, with Vauban, the famous military architect, contributing. There is a total of 8 kilometers ...

Hope you all had a nice 4th of July. We spent ours driving about 3.5 hours from Langres to Rolampont. Then I spent an hour or so walking around up and down the canal looking for somewhere where the wifi hotspot would work - with no luck! Then we had some cremant de Bourgogne with a nice Swiss couple who were so happy that we had no objection to them tying up onto our boat here at the very small jetty that they wanted to give us an ...

We had driven about 450 km on secondary roads doing around 80-90, so not to bad. At the camping they had two ponds, one with carpers and one with trouts. We ordered some trout with almonds for dinner which was beautiful and enjoyed our first night. We than tried out our new installed tv and watched a episode of Sherlock Holmes before going to sleep. 09/06 After breakfast and this and that (we have to get used to getting our stuff together quickly again) we ...
