... by dessert at our favourite gelateria on the beach, turned out to be a great way to pass the time. Friday is washing and cleaning day so it's off to the Lavenderia (laundrette). Saturday morning we said goodbye to Livorno and headed back to Firenze to meet up with our friends from Hope Island,. Jeanette & Brian La****n. They are spending 4 weeks touring Italy on a combination of business and pleasure. They arrived mid-afternoon on Sunday and found their way to ...

Best intentions for an early start we're delayed by heavy rain this morning, but we made the first 50km before lunch in great time and had a big lunch outside the supermarket in Saint Michel de Maurienne. We then climbed Col du Telegraphe and the rain started again just as we arrived into camp in Valoire. Currently tucked in our tent, enjoying looking through the photos so far while the rain continues ...

... of hairpins and curves. But they are about to resurface the road, so in preparation they have scraped off the smooth top surface and left it all rough. From the very beginning, it was averaging 8% gradient. It was 24 degrees, but with the sun beating down on us and not a breath of wind, we were dripping in sweat! There's not much wind chill when you're riding 6km/h! The height came slowly, but in a town about 3km in, they had an automatic defibrillator available for ...
