    ... and nothing was open and the chair lift wasn't running. So we decided to press on to a campsite we had picked out at Murat-le-Quare. It was called Le Panoramique and promised , what else,panoramic views over the Puys!

    ... us remained blue with fluffy clouds but behind us, it was so dark, it looked like the death star descending. Thunder rumbled ominously but luckily we stayed dry. The scenery is beautiful, very green with patches of forest and open grassland covered with wild flowers. Patches of snow are still visible on some of the higher peaks.

    After returning to Ruby, we headed for a campsite just outside Chambon -sur-Lac. The campsite is lovely with coloured bird boxes ...

    Yesterday we left the town of Besse-et-St-Anastaise, a medieval town in the Puys du Dome region of Auvergne. This was another magic spot we lucked upon, (thank you Google) staying in the ramparts of the old fort. Our front gates were actually set in the old town wall. The Belfoi Tower was the main gate originally...and so old! We are loving all the history we are discovering.
