Blue Cottage, Cork, Ireland dwyerkev... very big but is known for a few monuments that were recognizable such as St. Anne Shandon Cathedral. Not too far away is Blarney which contains the Blarney Castle and the Blarney Stone. We took yet again another bus into Blarney and hiked up to the Castle. This was the first castle I have seen so it was pretty amazing that something that grand could still be standing and everything in tact. It looked out over fields and fields of green ...
Cork, County Cork, Ireland koreywhiteThis morning we moved to a quiet B&B in Kilmountain, near Midleton, near Cork. As it wasn't a great distance from Tramore we arrived at midday, left our luggage and visited Midleton and the Jamesons distillery where we took a tour through their old distillery. They now produce a huge amount of whiskey at a much newer plant near by. The old plant was solid and had capacity to store lots of grain in a five story building. The men used to carry the sacks of ...
Castlemartyr, County Cork, Ireland tomodea... at anytime. Nonetheless we had found friendly and warm people in Ireland, more than willing to have a chat or help us get around. You'd think that people with a harsh past wear a burden on their backs, but everyone here seems as carefree and jolly as in the next country. We left Ireland with a sense that something was missing, feeling like we missed out on a lot more of Ireland, and in our minds we were already planning the next trip.

Trabolgan, Ireland deed... place for us in Kenmare over a scrumptious morning tea before we’d left Cobh. After leaving County Cork and heading west for County Kerry we had a bit of difficulty actually finding the place though, making quite a few passes along the road out of Kenmare before finding the right turn-off. Perhaps we weren’t the only ones having difficulty as the three of us turned out to be the only people staying there that night. But what a ...
Cork, Cork, Ireland troywilkinson... and had been re-constructed at great expense after years of decay, so an ordinary mug punter like me leaves happy.

After wandering the medieval streets of Kilkenny’s town centre we went westwards into County Tipperary. After reaching Cashel we again struggled to find a nice spot to pull over and eat lunch, finally managing to stop alongside some cows grazing in a paddock with ruins of an old Abbey at its centre. Perched on top of a slight ...
Cobh, County Cork, Ireland troywilkinson... crumbling. We walked a little too far out and had to catch the later bus to Blarney. In the meantime we checked out the Crawford Museum and then caught the bus. It was still raining a bit, so after a short walk and climb we were at the top and there was no line to kiss the Blarney Stone. Leaning back and kissing a slippery stone, Becky and I both have the gift of eloquent speech. The castle was really amazing to explore with lots of small rooms that you could wander around in ...
