Kingman, Arizona, United States sotas... we met at the bus for night ride back to LA which was uneventful apart from the bus getting pulled over by the Vegas police as we were leaving because Jimmy had popped his head out the drvers bunk roof hatch. Apparently she was the cutest highway cop Jimmy had seen and she must have liked him cause we got away with just a warning. I was woken at about 5am to be dropped off in Santa Monica.
Kingman, Arizona, United States julesjb... for what lies ahead. Her post Valentine's Day blog entry and the email she sent me confirms that. I couldn't remember what she looked like from our 10 minute conversation in New Orleans. Yesterday, something told me to do a name search on Facebook to see if she had a profile there. Her name and profile picture came up first. I needed to be reminded of what she looked like before today when I say the young pregnant woman. Hannah, Will you marry me? God will give you the answer.
Kingman, Arizona, United States cobra1899... some of the cloud had lifted. Just enough to let us see the bottom. Zac's description of the limited part he could see "that's awesome" (which really is his catch cry for the trip). But the weather closed in on the canyon again and although we did not have any more snow that was as much of the canyon as we would see - just a glimpse and just enough to understand its magnitude. Fortunately, it was not a first time for Cassandra and I. For Zac, it was all he ...
Kingman, Arizona, United States cdcass... the box on the table for you to do it yourself. We end up in a very cool dark grungy bar decorated with witches and skulls (although Halloween is over) for a couple of drinks before settling in for a night of freight train blasts. How do people sleep in this town?! There's a very good Route 66 museum in town, so we head there the next morning for a look around. It documents the history of Route 66 from the original and ...
Kingman, Arizona, United States tsargoodStaying a couple of days down in Bullhead City, on the Colorado River across from Laughlin, Nevada, on our way to the Phoenix area. We stayed at this park last year, and one of my favorite features is the swimming pool, which is designed with the clubhouse above it, and is in a "V" shape that reminds me of the Route 66 Motels of years gone by!
Bullhead City, Arizona, United States pykesonthego... in each direction. We were horrified to see our bike lane disappear, and we stopped to implement our Plan B riding formation (sounds impressive, doesn't it?). This involves Holly driving in the slow lane with the flashers on while Lawrence and I ride a few feet in front of her. Sounds safe, doesn't it? It did to Lawrence and I, as we heard and saw hoards of traffic whiz by us on the left with the ...
Kingman, Arizona, United States kzuber... the night before because darkness had already settled over the full but quiet parking lot by the time we came in. We loaded the last bit of water and necessities into our packs, locked up the car, and seemingly headed off the cliff edge, followed by a pair of local dogs. Stepping carefully yet eagerly down the first of several switchbacks, we came to realize we ...
Havasupai, Arizona, United States mlbalmeo... to put us up for a couple of nights. P and M were fab. They have a lovely house on the north side of town near the Phoneix preserve for some biking and hiking. One of the highlights of the stop over was buying the new mountain bike. However, while I was in the bike shop spending a few thousand dollars K was next door getting her shoes re-heeled for $6. That girl gets through money like no ones business and I had to remind her that we were on a strict budget! The bike is ...
