      ... hadn't realised when we stopped in Bellinzona last night that it is a Unesco World Heritage listed site, as it has 3 magnificent castles built in the 13th, 14th & 15th centuries and surrounded by a high city wall, and then surprisingly the weekend was also Unesco 'open house' weekend, so all buildings were open and free to the public.

      ... town to town. We first went to Varenna and walked around. Then back to Bellagio for lunch on the lake. Then to Managgio and back again to Bellagio. It's all very beautiful here and we are just taking the opportunity to relax. We will use our balcony this evening for gazing into Lake Como and then tomorrow we make the trek to Strasbourg.       ... doomed to run back to the hostel. We grabbed the brolly and went for a walk down the lake front and decided to get some food from a fancy restaurant for our lunch. The place was fancy and the price tag definitely matched the food that came out. We ordered a starter of seafood platter, none of which was deep fried. The octopus came out in small strips and the calamari was tender and chewy. They had squid which was cut into paper thin strips which had a taste to die for. Next up ...

      ... for fuel. Nothing to worry about, but our troubles really began when we were driving down a steep road heading towards Lake Maggiore. Red conked out. She stalled suddenly and unexpectedly; the engine just stopped, leaving us freewheeling downhill.
