After the undustrial zone in the valley the road winds higher and higher between clusters up homes on the steep mountainside, until I finally reach a church which, I suppose, is the "heart of the town"... Not wanting to retrace my steps, I follow a farm alley which I hope will take me back down to the bottom of the mountain. 1621. The Back Side of San Marino (San M 008) Chiesa Nuova, July 29, ...

... with Gubbio. We split up for 40 minutes so I can go and find a few shots I am after including a fountain I have read about. I find it all and meet the others back at the car. Some purchases have been made as usual.

We drive to a small hilltop town called Montone. It is very quiet but beautiful and Dianne and I find some great spots to photograph. There are also great views of the surrounding valley and we see many locals and ...

... interesting encounter" with someone in the entire country. Nobody who could give me some insider insights into this intriguing country... and who knows if I'll ever have the chance to meet a Sanmarinense again...

Anyways, I do have the chance to chat with an older lady. I stop in a typical Italian fast food place, where homestyle dishes are sold by the weight--a welcome break from having pizza all the time. The owner gets to talking with me, telling ...
