A week in Italy: Cinque Terre!!

... train.

There was an information center right off the train and the lady laughed at us when we mentioned finding a place to eat lunch. I had read and she reiterated that many places close at 2pm and then reopen for dinner around 6pm. Contrary to her advice we found a place to eat and milked our time there with sodas, pizza and of course desert. A quick train ride from Riomaggiore to Manarola and a steep hike to the top of the city brought us to our hostel. The weather was ...

Ahhh the blue, the blue blue ocean that calms me..

... you. And as I sit here and write this I have a window in front of my face overlooking the ocean. It is mesmerising, it takes my breath away, it is like a piece of my heart was missing as I haven't seen water in over a month, considering how many walks along the lakeshore in Barrie I was doing before leaving home it was almost like coming home again, seeing something familiar that made me just feel happy and safe ...

A Boat Ride to Cinque Terre

... from the area.

Originally, the only way to get to and from these little villages was by small fishing boats or an ancient foot path, which follows the coast connecting all five. Now, the path is well worn, and between a few of the towns, a paved path wide enough for locals tiny three-wheeled trucks to make some deliveries. There's now a boat that picks up and ...

Really looking forward to it but have loved Italy…

... park and a UNESCO world heritage site. It's estimated that the terraces built into the hillsides to support the community crops utilize walls that, if stretched out, would extend 12000 kilometers. Having been there, I believe them. The bright and distinct colorings on the buildings facing the ocean are there in part to help the fisherman find their way back to the right place. The 'stacked houses' building style was used ...

Cinque Terre - beauty, jellyfish and shemales!

... worried, but I assumed the operators would have warned us if there was anything to worry about. All the same I swam over to the boat to ask and she told me the little jellyfish sting but aren’t dangerous and the big jellyfish don’t sting at all. Relieved, I swam back over to Witek and the others.
Only a few minutes after I got back there was a bit of a commotion so we turned to see what was happening. The others had found one of the big jellyfish and I must admit ...

Week 2:

... on the bus the other day and she gave a mortally offended look and huffed off...whoops... Another way that Italy has corrupted me is with caffeine. I love espresso and I have about 3 per day...they are so little and they give such a lovely caffeine boost. It's going to be hard to go back to massive cups of coffee! Pretty much every office has a espresso/latte/etc. vending machine...it's a great way to stay awake when you're doing a office work. Cheers Ali

... Terre (five lands) which is a series of fishing villages linked by a railway line and coastal footpaths. They are UNESCO heritage sites as they reflect a way of life that is disappearing in Italy. They were very beautiful and we walked between a couple of villages before getting the train to the last (most touristy) village. We get back to the ...

Cinque Terre

... enough to make for good passing points. After our arrival in Vernazza, we took the train back to Manarola where we spent our last hour lounging on the rocks and taking a dip with the many fish in the surprisingly cold clear water. From there, we sadly bid goodbye to the breathtaking coastline and took the train back to La Spezia where we became somewhat rushed as we hurried back to the hotel, picked up our bag, speed walked back to the train ...
