Finally with the supplies sorted and Gab having unpacked a bit while we were out we headed off to Piazza San Marco for drinks in the afternoon sun at wonderful! All through drinks the kids were busting to get to the Pillar of Death and see if they could still get around to relieve their accumulated punishments. ... the graffiti on the walls and love messages on padlocks and in the Letter's to Juliet postbox was beautiful - I has goosebumps! Anyhow we added a K&P to the wall, as did the girls (although I don't know what they wrote!?). We wandered through the town, busy with tourists and headed home just as the heavens opened. I had really wanted to try the squid in black ink but after watching a very beautiful and sophisticated woman smile at me with black teeth after taking a bite, I chickened out. ... we were quickly at our seats. The Arena is spectacular inside and for this performance of Aida the stage was set so that about one third of the seats were empty and had become part of the staging. For our first ever opera the experience on the whole was great. The music of the overtures and arias was fine, and we even recognised one tune, 'The Grand March'. ... but I was glad to be onshore, not drowned or wet. As we drove home we saw a sunk boat...we felt relieved it was not us!

It was a great day but such a shame about the weather... Storms were all around us when we got home and I'm afraid as we head off to Slovenia tomorrow it looks wet. Is this getting us used to the UK we have not seen inconvenient rain since Istanbul in early May.
