After 2 full days of bus rides traveling north through Patagonia along Route 40, we were thrilled to arrive in the town of Bariloche, part of the Lake District that extends into Chile. It reminded us very much of Lake Tahoe as it is built along a large lake and has an Alpine feel in its weather (sunny but brisk) and its restaurants and shops. Bariloche is also well-known for it's fresh jams and chocolate shops. The opportunities to get outdoors for summer activities such as hiking, biking, an...
San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina andersontravelSo we made it to Bariloche a day early with some new friends and big old mountains waiting our arrival... In the end we were in Bariloche for a couple of extra days thanks you the ever reliable sales staff here in Argentina... Thursday So upon arriving on Thursday, refreshed from our up-grade to a coche cama type bus.... Time out: To clarify, in Argentina you can travel 3 ways: Plane (for rich people), boat (if there's water), and by Bus. We effectively chose bus for our travels and as I am t...
San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina basa1126If you were landed in Bariloche and not told where you were you would think you were in the Alps. There is a Swiss/German feeling around here. I´m told that this is where many Nazis who escaped Germany at the end of the war ended upo. In fact the butcher of Lyon was arrested not far from here. I can see why they chose it. It is completly isolated from the rest of the country and it is also a very beautiful place to end up. The Andes frame lake Nahuel Huapi to create a beautiful vista from eve...
Bariloche, Argentina brendanlarkinAfter yet another mammoth bus journey (I promise never to complain about the journey from London to Birmingham again), we arrived at the very touristy (but very beautiful) town of Bariloche in the Argentinian Lake District. We headed straight off on a two day horse trek in the surrounding mountains. The trip basically consisted of lots of grilled meat, staying in very remote wooden huts and getting sore thighs (especially for David who isn't quite so used to horses). We spent around six hours...
Bariloche, Lake District, Argentina davidandemA long travel day from Chile to Bariloche. The Lakes crossing was about 8 hours but as beautiful as the Swiss Alps. We took three boats and a bus to get to the famous Llao Llao Hotel. Amazing setting...a relaxing environment. Perfect for some pool time with the kids. We then flew from Bariloche to Igaussu Falls. Took a tour of falls from the Argentina side...spectacular. The longest waterfall in the world. Rivals Victoria and Niagara. 275 cascading falls bordering Argentina and Brazil. The ne...
Bariloche, Argentina fleischmannClick here for pictures. How can one describe what it is to experience this place? I am trying to get my mind around it, yet I find my vocabulary exhausted and my senses overwhelmed. To be here is to be at peace more than anywhere else I´ve encountered on this trip. My heart, mind, and soul are all at ease; the rhythmic lapping of the waves is a therapy unparalleled by any doctor´s office. As I sit here along the waters of Lago Nahuel Huapi, my fellow patients are the songbirds in the trees a...
Bariloche, Argentina jacque_sttrapOnce again I crossed the country and Thursday morning I arrived in Bariloche at Lake Nahuel Huapi, only parted from Chile by the Andes. Actually the rain I've been moaning about for the last week, was welcome here, since it came down as snow, and although yesterday was the first day of spring, the skiing season is still going on! Bariloche is a cute little town in swiss style- all the houses are typically build of stone and wood, which makes me totally feel like skiingholidays- and what's mor...
Villa la Angostura, Argentina markenhyldaAfter a few days of mayhem and madness in Buenos Aires, it was time to move on to somewhere to get my breath back. Where better than Bariloche, in Argentina´s Patagonian Lake District. It was clear from the taxi ride from the airport to the town centre that I was going to like it here - the scenery here is simply breathtaking. The town of Bariloche itself is very much a tourist town; plenty of souvenir shops, restaurants, and chocolate shops. Yep, lots and lots of chocolate shops. With the pl...
